answer text <p>The Department is aware of an ongoing supply issue affecting Visudyne<sup>®</sup> (verteporfin) injection due to manufacturing issues. We are working closely with the supplier and the National Health Service (NHS) to ensure that patients with the greatest clinical need can access the medicine. Comprehensive clinical guidance has been issued to the NHS which provides information on management of potentially affected patients during this time.</p> more like this

answer text <p>We published a personal protective equipment (PPE) plan on 10 April, setting out clear guidance on who needs PPE and in what circumstances they need to use it, how sufficient supplies will be secured and distributed to the front line.</p><p>The Government recognises the vital services that hospices provide across the United Kingdom. Distribution routes for PPE are constantly reviewed to strengthen and expand capacity, and efforts are currently being undertaken to boost the service to hospices.</p><p>We have provided local resilience forums with supplies of PPE to help them respond to urgent local spikes in need across front-line services, including hospices.</p><p>The National Supply Disruption Response exists as an emergency escalation route who handle queries including the supply of PPE as a last resort.</p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>The Department is already referring cases to the Competition and Market Authority (CMA) and to strengthen our work in this area. We are considering putting measures in place to routinely and systematically monitor significant price increases of generic medicines and take action where appropriate, including the possible referral of suspected excessive pricing to the CMA, while taking into account the potential impact of any such action on the availability of medicines.</p> more like this
