answer text
Government has a goal of stimulating at least £500m per year of private investment into nature recovery in England by 2027, rising to at least £1bn per year by 2030. Defra is putting in place interventions to set the conditions for this to happen, including publishing a nature markets framework, partnering with the British Standards Institute on nature investment standards, stimulating a pipeline of investable nature projects (including multiple projects in wetland areas), and enabling public funding for nature to crowd-in private investment.

The Government is also supporting eight blue finance projects with around £750,000 of grants through the Natural Environment Investment Readiness Fund. This funding is being used to develop a pipeline of projects that can demonstrate viable private-sector investment models, ultimately working to restore important coastal and marine habitats such as saltmarsh. Four of the five Protected Site Strategy Research and Development Pilots involve pressures affecting wetlands, including long-term management and financing, while Natural England is additionally progressing two projects on peatland National Nature Reserves on selling carbon using the Peatland Code.

Defra already supports a range of research projects relating to wetlands, including a recent collaboration with the British Trust for Ornithology modelling the impacts of different land use change scenarios on a range of wetland species. We also fund the Wetlands Bird Survey through grant in aid via JNCC. Through the UK Blue Carbon Evidence Partnership, UK Administrations are working with DESNZ and Defra to address key research questions relating to blue carbon habitats.

Internationally, we provide regular financial and in-kind support to the Ramsar Wetlands Convention to promote the protection and wise use of wetlands.

answer text
In Lebanon, DFID is providing regular targeted cash transfers to help over 10,000 of the most vulnerable Syrian refugee families to meet their most basic survival needs. The UK also funds legal assistance, support and advice (e.g. birth/marriage registration, civil documentation) to 55,000 individuals to uphold rights, facilitate access to basic services and to better prepare refugees for their eventual return to Syria. DFID is also supporting provision of non-formal education for up 114,500 vulnerable children and providing child protection and gender-based violence services to 295,930 girls, boys and caregivers.

The UK strongly advocates for the rights and protection of refugees and is working with aid agencies to further reform the aid system to deliver more effective, smarter aid to the most vulnerable. The UK continues to play a leading role in mobilising the international community. On 12 – 14 March 2019, the UK attended the third Brussels Conference on “Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region”, driving forward the legacy of our own London Conference held in 2016. The money pledged will save lives and enable the provision of life-saving supplies and resources to build the livelihoods of millions of internally displaced persons and refugees, and their host communities.

answer text
The UK Government is committed to assisting the Government of Iraq (GoI) in alleviating the suffering of those Iraqis targeted by Daesh, the so-called "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) group and to restore stability and security across the country.

Details of military goods sold by the UK Government to Iraqi military forces are published in the UK Strategic Export Controls Annual Report at the following link:www.gov.uk/government/publications/strategicexportcontrolsannualreport.

The most recent report, which covers 2014, was published in July 2015. Together with the previous report, it indicates that there were no Government-to-Government sales of military goods to Iraqi military forces in 2013 or 2014. In addition, there is no record of any sales of military goods from the UK Government to Iraqi military forces in the period from January to the end of June 2015. This period will be covered in the next Annual Report published in 2016.

With regard to military goods exported by UK companies to Iraq, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, is the appropriate UK licensing authority. The Government holds information on export licensing decisions for military goods from the UK to Iraq but it does not hold data on actual sales of defence exports and has no information on whether any such exports to Iraq have been used specifically to combat ISIL or for other defence or security purposes.

I can inform you that 30 Individual Export Licences have been issued for military goods from the UK to Iraq for the period from January 2014 to the end of March 2015. Data on these 30 export licences is publicly available via the Government's Strategic Export Controls: Reports and Statistics website https:// www. exportcontroldb.bis.gov. uk/sdb/fox/sdb/SDBHOME. Data covering the period 1 April to 30 June 2015 is due to be published in October 2015, while data on the export of military goods from the UK to Iraq prior to January 2014 is also available on the same website.

In addition the UK Government is providing extensive support to the GOI in the continuing fight against ISIL, with the gifting of equipment forming a significant part of this. Previously, Her Majesty's Government has gifted 50 tonnes of non-lethal support, 40 heavy machine guns and nearly half a million rounds of ammunition to the Kurdish Peshmerga. The latest equipment to be gifted to the Peshmerga consists of additional medical supplies. The supplies consist of items such as tourniquets, bandage kits and dressings for wounds and fill a significant gap in their resources, leading to the preservation of life and proper treatment of injuries sustained in combat.
