This has included working with EY, the appointed Administrator, to ensure the sums remaining within Project Bank Accounts are correct. The Department is in contact with a large number of subcontractors to ISG to determine what, if any, direct assistance the MoJ is able to provide. The Department remains committed to the timely payment of invoices in line with our obligations to do so.

The MoJ is undertaking a review of all potential payments arising from ISG entering administration, but given the scale and complexity of the task, this work is not yet complete.
more like this

answer text
This is a devolved matter, and the information provided therefore relates to England only.

Beavers are categorised as a native species in England. Beavers became a European Protected Species in 2022 under Schedule 2 of the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2017 (the ‘Habitats Regulations’). This makes it an offence to deliberately capture, injure, kill or disturb beavers, or damage and destroy their breeding sites or resting place without a licence issued under regulation 55 of the Habitats Regulations by Natural England.

Recognising the potential risk that unmanaged beaver releases into the wild can bring, legislation was introduced in 2015 adding the beaver to schedule 9 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (the ‘WCA’) so that releases in England would require a licence.

The Beaver (England) Order 2022 amended Schedule 9 of the WCA to retain the requirement for a licence for release of beavers after the species was given protected status and formally recognised as a returned native species.

Although beavers are a native species whose return is welcomed, licensing their release helps ensure beaver release projects are high quality, follow the England reintroductions code, and take place where benefits can be maximised, and risks minimised.

answer text
The pay agreement with ASLEF has brought an end to over two years of damaging national industrial action which was very disruptive to passengers. Industrial relations have also been reset to enable delivery of a reformed railway that works for everyone. However, because the agreement is so recent, the Department does not yet hold national data to show the extent to which this has directly improved train running times or cancellation dates, which are influenced by a range of factors including seasonal effects.
more like this

answer text
This government is carefully reviewing the position it has inherited on HS2 and wider rail infrastructure and will set out detailed plans in due course. These will include our plans for a disposal programme for land and property acquired for HS2 that is no longer required.

Where any land and property asset has been acquired compulsorily, or via statutory blight and is no longer required, then it will be sold subject to the Crichel Down Rules. These require government departments, under certain circumstances, to offer back surplus land to the former owner or the former owner’s successors at the current market value.

In the majority of cases, where agricultural land acquired for HS2 is not required operationally, former owners are offered the opportunity to continue to use and farm the land. This is documented by way of either a licence or Farm Business Tenancy depending on the circumstances and proposed use of the land.
more like this

answer text
The Department has invested £9.3 million to bolster the safety of artificial intelligence (AI) in health and care, and to ensure the regulatory pathway is clear for both developers and adopters. Ensuring technologies are safe is a top priority and, through this funding, the Department has supported the launch of regulatory projects such as the AI and Digital Regulation Service (AIDRS) and the AI Airlock.

The AIDRS collaborates between the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulation Agency (MHRA), the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, the Health Research Authority, and the Care Quality Commission. The service, by providing a collaborative ‘one stop shop’ of information, advice, and guidance, allows adopters and developers of AI to easily understand what regulatory and evaluation pathways need to be followed before an AI tool can be safety deployed across health and care.

The AI Airlock is an MHRA-led initiative, supported by the NHS AI Lab, designed to create a controlled testing environment where developers can rigorously validate AI tools in real-world clinical settings before full-scale deployment ensuring they meet National Health Service standards for safety, efficacy, and integration into existing healthcare workflows. The AI Airlock fosters collaboration between developers, regulators, and healthcare providers and reduces the risks associated with early-stage implementation while providing valuable feedback for developers to refine their products.
