answer text
On 26 January the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport issued a new Public Interest Intervention Notice in respect of the anticipated acquisition of Telegraph Media Group by RB Investco Ltd.

This follows Redbird IMI making changes to the corporate structure of the potential acquiring entities of the Telegraph Media Group. This created a new limited partnership which would hold all shares in RB Investco – the proposed purchaser of Telegraph Media Group. The Secretary of State has come to the conclusion that this corporate restructure creates a new relevant merger situation.

The Notice triggers a requirement for the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) to report to the Secretary of State on jurisdictional and competition matters, and for Ofcom to report on the specified media public interest considerations. Ofcom and the CMA have now both launched invitations for public comment, and will report to the Secretary of State on the issues specified in the Notice by 9.00 a.m. on 11 March 2024.

The Public Interest Intervention Notice issued on 30 November 2023 in regard to the acquisition of Telegraph Media Group Limited by RedBird IMI Media Joint Venture LLC remains in force. The deadline by when the Secretary of State expects to receive Ofcom and the CMA’s reports in relation to this Notice has also been extended to 9.00 a.m. on 11 March 2024 so as to align with the deadline for the reports she has requested in relation to the new Notice.

The Pre-emptive Action Order made on 1 December 2023 remains in force.

It would be inappropriate to comment further at this time given this is an ongoing regulatory intervention.

answer text
We remain longstanding supporters of the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) and their work to support Palestinian refugees across the region including Gaza. Minister Milling had the opportunity to see the UNWRA supported refugee camp in Jerusalem during her recent visit to the region in June 2022 and saw first-hand the challenges refugees face along with the impact of valuable UK support. At the UNRWA pledging conference in New York in June, we announced a new multi-year funding programme with the agency providing £15 million in 2022, which helps UNRWA provide education to over 533,000 children a year (half of them girls), and access to health services for 3.5 million Palestinian refugees.
more like this

That is why we have given the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) an objective to promote effective competition in the interest of consumers. The FCA regulates the conduct of financial markets so that they work well and consumers get a fair deal.

We have also created the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) to oversee competition in markets including the insurance industry. answer text
Information is collected each month to measure performance against the waiting time standards for consultant-led treatment for non-urgent conditions. The data measures the number of patients who waited each month and the number of weeks they waited from referral to start treatment. It distinguishes between those patients who are admitted into hospital and those who are non-admitted (for example, outpatients). It does not identify appointments. The data also measures the number of patients who had not yet started treatment at the end of each month and the number of weeks they were waiting.

The requested information has been placed in the Library. It does not sum to published national figures, because it excludes other organisations who submitted data over the time period including primary care trusts and the independent sector.
more like this
