answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 23/10/2019 answer text <p>The UK is concerned by data that suggests a surge in forest fires in the Amazon rainforest in 2019. Whilst the data is complex there is evidence that indicates this surge in fires follows months of accelerated deforestation. In recent years we have seen some evidence that climate change is making forest fires more frequent and severe in Amazon countries and elsewhere. Unlike previous years when El Niño caused severe droughts, climatic conditions were probably not a significant factor this year’s increase in fires.</p><p><br>Amazon countries are established key partners for the UK in our collective efforts to promote sustainable growth, tackle deforestation and mitigate climate change. As stated in my response on 2 October 2019, the UK supports a number initiatives, as part of multilateral climate funds and the UK’s bilateral relationship with several Amazon countries, that aim to: i) improve the capacity of governments to reduce deforestation; ii) incentivise forest protection through results based payments; iii) enable businesses and communities to grow rural economies sustainably whilst protecting standing forests.</p><p><br>These initiatives continuously monitor and implement mitigation strategies for risks, such as increasing deforestation, in the course of their ongoing activities.</p> answering member constituency Spelthorne answering member printed Kwasi Kwarteng question first answered 23/10/2019 12:58:52 answering member 4134 label Biography information for Kwasi Kwarteng

answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 30/06/2017 answer text <p>For reasons of national security we do not publically disclose the detailed allocation of funding for counter terrorism by force area or by capability.</p><p>Overall this Government has protected counter-terrorism police spend in real terms over the Spending Review period, and invested in counter-terrorism policing to grow key capabilities, including providing £144m to increase armed policing capability. We remain committed to increasing cross-government spending on counter-terrorism by 30%, from £11.7 billion to £15.1 billion, including funding an additional 1,900 officers at our security and intelligence agencies.</p><p>We know that the recent horrific attacks have put pressure on the police across the country. The Department’s National Institute for Health Research Clinical Research Network (CRN) is providing research infrastructure to enable molecular genetic analysis of HS, although expenditure on this cannot be disaggregated from total CRN spend.</p><p> </p><p><br> Information on the diagnosis, treatment care and support of patients with HS can be found on the NHS Choices website. This also provides links to the British Association of Dermatologists, which has produced a patient information leaflet on HS, and the HS Trust, which is the United Kingdom‘s leading charity for the condition. More information can be found at the following link:</p><p> </p><p><br> <a href="http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/hidradenitis-suppurativa/Pages/Introduction.aspx" target="_blank">www.nhs.uk/conditions/hidradenitis-suppurativa/Pages/Introduction.aspx</a></p><p> </p><p><br> In terms of the care pathway for the condition, HS can usually be managed with treatments including antibiotics, antiseptic washes and immunosuppressive treatments such as steroids or ciclosporin, which a general practitioner may prescribe. For those patients with the most serious forms of HS who cannot be managed through routine access to treatments provided through primary or secondary care, a referral to a specialised dermatology service may be appropriate. NHS England commissions services for people with rare and complex skin conditions and has set out what providers must have in place in order to offer specialist dermatology care. These services may provide more intensive therapies with the involvement of a range of health and care professionals, subject to a patient’s needs.
