answer text <p>I am happy to confirm, that following a review of the existing law by my department, and building on the robust work of the Honourable Member for Bath, the Government will adopt the Honourable Lady’s PMB as a Government Bill. This Bill creates two new offences specifically covering the practice of up-skirting and will strengthen the law, and better protect victims.</p><p> </p><p>The Bill was introduced on Thursday 21<sup>st</sup> June and I expect it to obtain a Second Reading in the House before summer recess</p><p> </p><p>I continue to support work across government - with police, prosecutors and others - to make sure this degrading offence continues to be prosecuted as effectively as possible.</p> more like this

answer text <p>My department have received representations from a range of stakeholders to make upskirting a specific criminal offence and have met with campaigners to discuss their concerns.</p><p> </p><p>I share their determination to ensure that the intrusive practice of up-skirting is tackled robustly and that is why I am pleased to confirm that, following detailed review of the law by my department, the Government has committed to supporting Wera Hobhouse’s PMB. answer text <p>I am determined to ensure that the intrusive practice of up-skirting is tackled robustly: there should be no doubt that such acts are unacceptable and illegal.</p><p> </p><p>I am encouraged to see that this disturbing behaviour has been successfully prosecuted on a number of occasions under the offence of outraging public decency. My officials are reviewing the various laws in this area to see if anything further can be done to tackle this intrusive and unpleasant practice.</p><p> </p><p>As part of this work they are considering the Private Member’s Bill put forward by Wera Hobhouse MP. Officials at the Ministry of Justice have met with campaigners and their representatives to discuss their concerns first hand. We hope to have completed this work soon.</p><p> </p><p>Alongside this, I continue to support wider work across government to raise awareness with police and prosecutors of the existing offences available to prosecute upskirting and to ensure that appropriate reference is made to these offences in guidance for investigators and prosecutors.</p>

answer text <p>The Government is committed to making sure that victims of crime have access to a broad range of support services, to help them cope with and, as far as possible, recover from the effects of crime. We are spending £96m in 2017/18 to fund support services for victims of crime. answer text <p>Depending on the individual circumstances and evidence available in each case, the Crown Prosecution Service will decide whether a prosecution should proceed and if so which specific offence should be charged.</p><p> </p><p>Upskirting has been successfully prosecuted under a range of existing criminal offences including the common law offence of outraging public decency. That offence carries an unlimited prison sentence.</p><p> </p><p>The Minister of State for Justice has asked for detailed advice on this issue before considering the case for a change in legislation.</p> more like this
