In the first month of 2024, China represented c.6% of all UK steel imports in volume terms.</p><p>We recognise that global economic conditions continue to be challenging for the steel industries across the globe.</p><p>This is why we have put in place a robust trade remedies framework to provide appropriate protection for domestic industries, including steel, against surges of imports and unfair practices. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 26/03/2024 answer text <p>Our support to the UK steel sector is clear, we have introduced effective safeguards against non-market economies, helped public projects procure more UK made steel and we are launching the British Industry Supercharger to bring energy costs closer in line with those charged across the world’s major economies.</p><p>This Government has agreed a £500m grant as part of a larger £1.25bn commitment by Tata Steel to transform and secure a sustainable future at their Port Talbot works. It is for industry to demonstrate <em>prima facie</em> evidence of dumping that is causing material injury to EU producers, to the European Commission. We encourage industry to present this evidence to the Commission, where there is evidence of dumping and material injury. Where evidence is sufficient to justify an investigation, the Commission will do so and present any proposals for applying duties to Member States.</p><p> </p><p>The EU currently has 45 measures in place against steel or steel products, 19 of which are against China. Officials have not made representations to the Commission at this stage in the investigation.</p><p>This is one of several trade defence measures which are being applied by the EU which affect UK industry. The Government is looking into the detail of UK trade remedies policy as a whole as we leave the EU. The Government is seeking to maintain continuity for businesses as we exit from the EU.
