answer text <p>Published Home Office Detention Services Order 08/2014 <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/deaths-in-detention" target="_blank">Deaths in detention</a> provides guidance as to the actions that Home Office and contracted supplier staff must take in the event of a death in detention.</p><p>The Home Office publish annual data on deaths in detention as part of the <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/immigration-statistics-quarterly-release" target="_blank">Immigration System Statistics Quarterly Release</a>. The annual data for 2017 to 2021 are included in <a href="https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1136695/detention-summary-dec-2022-tables.ods" target="_blank">table Det_05b in the Detention summary tables</a>.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The first Community Engagement Pilot, Action Access, provided women who would otherwise be detained with a programme of support in the community. This pilot concluded on 31 March 2021. The independent evaluation of Action Access was published on 24 January 2022.</p><p>The second pilot, the Refugee and Migrant Advisory Service, supported both men and women in the community and remained in operation for two years until June 2022. The independent evaluation of the Refugee and Migrant Advisory Service is expected early in the new year. We will use the UNHCR evaluations of these pilots to inform our future approach to case-management focused alternatives to detention.</p><p>Since 2018, information on deaths in immigration detention has been included in published immigration statistics on an annual basis. answer text <p>The safety and welfare of all those in our care is of the utmost importance and we accept nothing but the highest standards from companies employed to provide detention and escorting services on our behalf.</p><p>Immigration removal centres (IRC) suppliers are required to provide a safe and secure environment for detained individuals in their care and the conditions and facilities at all immigration detention facilities are kept under regular review.</p><p>In addition, all IRCs, short term holding facilities (STHFs) and the escort provider have robust contingency plans covering a wide range of risks (including loss of power and water supplies and communicable diseases). These are tested on a regular basis and are audited by Home Office compliance teams.</p> more like this

answer text <p>We operate the immigration removal estate in a flexible manner and in line with the Short Term Holding Facility (STHF) Rules 2018 and the Detention Centre Rules 2001, as appropriate.</p><p> </p><p>In order to support the management of the arrival of migrants by boat, we have temporarily accommodated people under the provisions of the STHF Rules 2018, in a small number of immigration removal centres (IRCs) including Dungavel House. Dungavel IRC is only considered when capacity is exceeded at other facilities, or contingencies are exhausted. Since 14 April 2022 Dungavel IRC has not operated as a STHF to accommodate clandestine migrant arrivals.</p><p> </p><p>There have been no occasions since 14 April 2022 when capacity has been exceeded in any IRC.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Home Office publishes statistics on people entering and in detention in the ‘<a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/immigration-statistics-quarterly-release" target="_blank">Immigration Statistics Quarterly Release</a>’. The number of people entering detention in each quarter can be broken down by place of initial detention in table Det_D01 of the ‘<a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/statistical-data-sets/returns-and-detention-datasets#immigration-detention" target="_blank">Detention detailed tables</a>’. The number of people in detention at the end of each quarter can be broken down by current place of detention in table Det_D02 of the ‘<a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/statistical-data-sets/returns-and-detention-datasets#immigration-detention" target="_blank">Detention detailed tables</a>’. The latest data goes up to the end of December 2021. Data for January to March 2022 will be published on the 26 May 2022.</p><p>Information on how to use the dataset can be found in the ‘Notes’ page of the workbook.</p>
