answer text <p>The government’s position remains as stated by the then Minister for Women and Equalities, the member for Portsmouth North, in her statement to Parliament on 23 July 2018.</p><p>We do not intend to make an order determining caste to be an aspect of ‘race’ for the purposes of the Equality Act 2010.</p><p>We will repeal the statutory duty to make such an order once a suitable legislative vehicle becomes available.</p> more like this

answer text <p>This Government completely opposes caste discrimination. Since coming into office, we have been considering the caste duty, particularly in the light of the Tirkey v Chandok employment appeal tribunal judgment. That suggests an existing legal remedy for claims of caste-associated discrimination under the ethnic origins element of section 9 of the Equality Act 2010. We note this potential protection and will continue to look at this issue carefully.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Since July 2013 when the timetable was published, the government has received a number of representations from MPs, Peers, organisations and individuals. These representations have concerned whether the timetable should go ahead as well as the length of time required to implement the various stages it contains.
