answer text <p>Neither my Department nor the Environment Agency holds information on the number of beach closures due to sewage pollution in England.</p><p> </p><p>Local authorities have powers to restrict use and close beaches and are responsible for local beach management, including closures, in their respective areas.</p><p> </p><p>This policy area is devolved to the Welsh Government.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Continuous improvements have been made to the sewerage system in the area, with the latest being the completion of a scheme to reduce storm sewage discharges from the Whitburn long sea outfall in December 2017. This has reduced the frequency in discharges from the system by around 40% compared to the average from the old system.</p> more like this
