answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 28/07/2020 answer text <p>We will make sure that the wider learning gathered during the E-FanX project, including important work with Cranfield University, is disseminated widely.</p><p> </p><p>We continue to work with Rolls-Royce on the power generation system and ground testing, at Bristol, which was at the core of their element of the project. The learning at Rolls-Royce will be integrated into any future aircraft development requiring a hybrid-electric propulsion system. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 22/07/2020 answer text <p>The focus of our policy development and analysis to date has been on ways to meet our 2050 net zero carbon commitment. We have not specifically made an assessment of the savings that could be made if the focus were the next five or ten years, but we continue to develop policies to reduce emissions over both the short term and the medium term.</p><p> </p><p>The Transport Secretary recently announced the Jet Zero Council, which will provide leadership and strategic direction to cut aviation emissions. The Council will focus on developing UK capabilities to deliver zero emission flight.</p><p> </p><p>Through the Aerospace Growth Partnership, Government and industry are committing a total of £3.9bn in funding for mid-stage aerospace research and development between 2013 and 2026.</p><p> </p><p>DfT’s Future Fuels for Flight and Freight Competition makes £20 million of capital funding available for projects that will produce low carbon waste-based fuels for use in aircraft and heavy goods vehicles. This government funding will be matched by the private sector, and is expected to support construction of first-of-a-kind plants by 2021. The Government is considering further policies it can put in place to assist the long-term development of innovative technology such as electric propulsion.</p><p> </p><p>In addition, the Government recently supported a Global Urban Air Summit held at Farnborough Airport, which brought together industry and academia to discuss the development of new technologies like electric and autonomous aircraft. Whilst no specific assessment of this nature has been made, the Government has committed £155m to support a new era of cleaner and greener aviation.</p><p> </p><p>This includes £125m of Government funding for the Future Flight Industrial Strategy Challenge to support the next generation of electric planes and autonomous aircraft, alongside support for projects such as the joint Rolls Royce, Airbus and Siemens E-Fan X, a hybrid-electric flight demonstrator.</p><p> </p><p>Our consultation on Aviation 2050, the Government’s long-term vision for aviation, sought views on how to address the environmental challenges and the role that new technology and innovation can play in sustainable growth for aviation.
