answer text
The Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme (ACRS) commenced on 6th January and will provide up to 20,000 women, children and others at risk with a safe and legal route to resettle in the UK.

The scheme will prioritise those who have assisted UK efforts in Afghanistan and stood up for UK values such as democracy, women’s rights, freedom of speech and rule of law; and vulnerable people such as women and girls at risk, and members of minority groups (including ethnic / religious minorities and LGBT+).

Representations from Members of Parliament have raised the plight of a great number of people from Afghanistan who would wish to relocate to the UK.

These representations have helped to inform the design of the ACRS as a scheme that will help those in need who are particularly vulnerable, including women and children at risk, and minority groups; as well as those who have supported the UK mission in Afghanistan.

All referrals onto the ACRS will be through the three pathways set out in the statement to Parliament of 6 January, which is a fair and equitable way to identify those most in need.

As an additional verification step, we shall check names of eligible British Council and GardaWorld contractors, and Chevening alumni against the names of people referred to us by MPs during the evacuation.

Further detail on the three referral pathways can be found at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/afghan-citizens-resettlement-scheme.

answer text
It remains a top priority to help those British nationals and those Afghans eligible to come to the UK to leave Afghanistan, including journalists. Since the end of the military evacuation, the Government has facilitated the departure of both Afghan and British nationals from Afghanistan. Although travel within Afghanistan remains dangerous, and many border crossings have been closed during this period, we have also helped both British nationals and eligible Afghans when they have crossed into third countries, from where our diplomatic missions have been able to support their onward travel to the UK. We will continue to work to take advantage of all opportunities to help those eligible to come to the UK to leave Afghanistan.
more like this

The MOD is currently undertaking a data validation exercise and further information will be released to the House at the appropriate time.

Operation PITTING was the largest UK military evacuation since the second World War. We have worked tirelessly to ensure that as many people as possible, including thousands of British nationals and their families, Afghan former staff and their families and many highly vulnerable Afghan people - were relocated to the UK on over 100 RAF flights.

Our commitment to those who are not eligible under the ARAP, and the process to deliver it, is not time-limited and will endure. answer text
The UK is committed to supporting President Ghani’s efforts to eliminate corruption, promote human rights and improve the justice system as set out in his ambitious reform agenda at the London Conference on Afghanistan.

There has been significant progress, particularly on women’s rights, since 2001, but the gains made are fragile and the country still faces huge challenges. The UK provides support and funding for the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission to help it protect human rights, investigate and catalogue violence and support those seeking justice. We play an active role, along with EU Member States, on protecting human rights defenders as part of the EU Local Strategy. In addition, the Department for International Development (DFID) also funds a number of humanitarian programmes that help to promote human rights.

Through DFID’s Afghan Reconstruction Trust Fund we run a public financial management reform project to strengthen procurement, audit and reporting controls to improve transparency and accountability. The fund is also used to increase access to legal services through a justice services delivery project. In addition we’re working to increasing women’s access to justice by funding services providing legal advice to women suffering from domestic violence.
