Police leaders - especially in England where referendum limits apply - were clear that they wanted additional flexibility to increase funding through precept. The Criminal Finances Act 2017 provides important new powers to improve the asset recovery system, such as unexplained wealth orders, the forfeiture of bank accounts and forfeiture of certain mobile assets. The Government is also implementing the recommendations made in the Public Accounts Committee Report of 2016.
