Former long-term plan originally drafted by the European Space Agency in 1984, which
focused on funding and developing new science missions, and also maintaining contemporary
ones.
Created under Road Safety Bill (HL) 2005-06, which authorises the Secretary of State
for Transport to make orders for the protection of those using a level crossing. This
function is usually performed by the ORR on behalf of the Secretary of State. Level
crossing orders specify the protective equipment required at a particular crossing.
Large scale developments (relating to energy, transport, water, waste water or waste)
which require development consent. The Planning Act 2008 introduced a new development
consent process for NSIPs which was subsequently amended by the Localism Act 2011.
Special sessions may be convened at the request of the United Nations Security Council,
or a majority of UN members, or, if the majority concurs, of a single member. By tradition,
the first person to speak is a Brazilian representative.
Centres announced in November 2010; funded one-third by the Technology Strategy Board,
one-third by competitive grants and one-third by business contracts. First phase to
comprise three or four centres in the areas of high value manufacturing, energy and
resource efficiency, transport systems, healthcare, ICT and electronics, photonics
and electrical systems.
