The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) services the industry through the provision of vehicle testing, known as the MOT. To ensure demand is met, and provide flexibility, the DVSA continues to increase the number of testing staff, open new Authorised Test Facilities, and improve its processes and systems.

In 2021, the Department for Transport conducted a review of Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) testing. The review, which was published the same year, concluded HGV testing should continue to be delivered as is, which provides independent assurance to ensure vehicles are maintained correctly, and safety is not compromised. There are no current plans to change the way HGVs are tested.

The DVSA estimates that at any time there could be around one in twenty of British HGVs operating on Great Britain’s roads that are operating without a valid MOT. The DVSA takes this matter very seriously, and targets its on-road enforcement towards such vehicles. Any vehicle found not to have a valid MOT is referred to the Traffic Commissioners, who have the powers to take action against the license of the vehicle operator.

The UK recently announced £170 million of funding to the humanitarian crisis in Yemen for the financial year 2018/19. This funding will provide life-saving food, medicine (including antibiotics), clean water and sanitation to millions of people facing disease and hunger in Yemen. Our funding to UNICEF, the UN’s Yemen Humanitarian Pooled Fund and to our NGO partners through our Yemen Multisector Humanitarian Response Programme all contribute to improving the quality and availability of healthcare and medical supplies. We have also taken a leading role in calling on all parties to allow unhindered humanitarian and commercial access, including for medical supplies, as well as food and fuel, across Yemen.

Last financial year, we provided over £8 million in targeted cholera funding to UNICEF and the International Organization for Migration. This support aimed to provide medical supplies to half a million people, safe access to chlorinated water to 300,000 people, and rehabilitate medical facilities used by 250,000 people.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/1091", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Lord Bates"} } , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Lord Bates"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2018-05-10", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2018-05-10T14:30:22.967Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "20"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "International Development"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "International Development"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2018-05-01", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Yemen: Hospitals"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "2"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25277", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Lords"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask Her Majesty's Government what steps they are taking to help ensure hospitals in Yemen have access to medical supplies, including antibiotics.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4548", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Baroness Sheehan"} } , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Baroness Sheehan"} ], "uin" : "HL7477"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/510271", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Foreign and Commonwealth Office"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/510271/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "While we have not raised this specific issue, we remain deeply concerned by Israel’s approach to demolitions and regularly raise the matter with the Israeli authorities."} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/3474", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Baroness Anelay of St Johns"} } , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Baroness Anelay of St Johns"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2016-04-20", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2016-04-20T14:51:26.667Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "16"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign and Commonwealth Office"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign and Commonwealth Office"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2016-04-11", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Israel: Bedouin"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "2"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25277", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Lords"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask Her Majesty’s Government what representations they have made to the government of Israel following the large-scale home demolitions in the Bedouin refugee community of Um al Khayr in the South Hebron Hills on 6 April.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/200", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Baroness Tonge"} } , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Baroness Tonge"} ], "uin" : "HL7477"} ], "itemsPerPage" : 10, "page" : 0, "startIndex" : 1, "totalResults" : 5, "type" : ["http://purl.org/linked-data/api/vocab#ListEndpoint", "http://purl.org/linked-data/api/vocab#Page"]} }
