The UK continues to speak out publicly and vigorously to press the warring parties to facilitate unhindered, crossline and cross-border humanitarian access. On 27 February, the UK called for the UN Security Council to convene for a closed consultation in response to the SAF's decision to withdraw permission for the movement of humanitarian personnel and supplies into Sudan from Chad via the Adré crossing. On 20 March, we made a UK intervention at the Security Council highlighting the OCHA White Note's clear warning that obstruction of humanitarian access by the SAF and RSF is resulting in people in Sudan starving. On 8 March, the UK led the Security Council to adopt a resolution calling for a ceasefire for Ramadan and for urgent humanitarian access.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/1547", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Lord Benyon"} } , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Lord Benyon"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2024-05-23", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2024-05-23T09:54:16.497Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "208"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2024-05-08", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Sudan: Humanitarian Aid"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "2"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25277", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Lords"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask His Majesty's Government what steps they have taken to secure guarantees from Sudan’s warring parties for the safe and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian assistance to conflict-affected populations.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4349", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for The Lord Bishop of Leeds"} } , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "The Lord Bishop of Leeds"} ], "uin" : "HL4469"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1563805", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1563805/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

Iran's support for the Russian military campaign in Ukraine is deplorable and the supply of drones is in violation of UN Security Council resolution 2231. Russia is offering Iran an unprecedented level of military support, transforming their defence relationship and strengthening Iranian capability, further threatening regional and international security.  Recent executions of young people detained in connection to protests shows the Iranian authorities' callous disregard for their citizens' lives. At a Special Session of the Human Rights Council on 24 November, the UK and our partners established an investigative mechanism into the regime's human rights violations in response to protests. Official data on commercial flights is collected by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and received from UK airports in adherence to statistical regulation (EC) 437/2003 on statistical returns in respect of the carriage of passengers, freight and mail by air. As Farnborough mainly receives non-commercial flight traffic, it is exempt from reporting under this regulation.

The Department can consult monitoring of flight traffic conducted by Eurocontrol to identify the volume of flights at Farnborough. This monitoring shows that Farnborough received an average of 10 flights (arrivals and departures) per day throughout April 2020.

We are asking people travelling to the UK to supply their contact details and details of their accommodation, and to self-isolate in their accommodation for 14 days.

There has been no national policy to limit general practitioner (GP) consultations to the discussion of one health concern per consultation.

The General Medical Services regulations require the contractor to provide services to their registered and temporary resident patients which include ‘management’ of those patients who are or believe themselves to be ill, terminally ill or suffering from chronic disease. Within the regulations, ‘management’ is defined as offering consultation and where appropriate physical examination for the purposes of identifying the need, if any, for treatment or further investigation and making available such treatment as is necessary and appropriate including the referral of the patient for other services. Such services must be provided at such times within core hours (8am – 6.30pm) as are appropriate to meet the reasonable needs of patients.

The length and type of consultation is not defined within the regulations, but what is required is that GP practices must specify in their practice leaflets the consultations available to patients, the opening hours of the practice and the method of obtaining services throughout core hours.

The Department does not have a central policy on what can be raised in appointments. It is for individual practices to assess the needs of their patients and how best to meet them; we would expect those practices to listen to and respond to any feedback from their patients.

It is not for the Government but for local National Health Service organisations to decide whether they have a sufficient complement of doctors, and they are best placed to do this based on the needs of their patients, demand for services and the best skill mix to serve their local community.

The latest monthly workforce statistics published by the Health and Social Care Information Centre show that as at October 2014 there were 6,098 accident and emergency (A&E) doctors in the NHS in England, an increase of 1,236 since May 2010.

In addition to the increasing numbers of doctors working in A&E units, in order to increase the pool of supply, last year Health Education England (HEE) worked with the College of Emergency Medicine to expand the emergency medicine branch of the Acute Care Common Stem programme and established a ‘run through’ pilot for speciality training. HEE developed a mechanism whereby doctors working in other clinical areas can transfer into emergency medicine with their skills recognised and progress more quickly through the early years of emergency medicine training. These actions are now having a positive impact on the system, and there is now a 98% fill rate.
