In the Spring Budget 2023, my right hon. Friend, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, announced a transformative set of childcare reforms aimed at increasing labour market participation. This included the largest ever investment in childcare, including expansions of early years entitlements and wraparound childcare.

The government is investing £289 million in a new wraparound childcare programme to support local authorities to work with primary schools and providers, including childminders, to set up and deliver more wraparound childcare before and after school in the term time. The government’s ambition is for all parents of primary school children, including reception age children, to be able to access childcare in their local area from 8am to 6pm when they need it.

Parents should expect to see an expansion in the availability of wraparound care from September 2024, with every parent who needs it able to access term-time wraparound childcare by September 2026. Programme funding allocations for local authorities were announced on 27 October 2023.

As part of the programme, local authorities will make an assessment of the supply and demand of wraparound care in their areas to ensure that there is adequate provision for the needs of parents.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4761", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for David Johnston"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Wantage"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "David Johnston"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2023-11-28", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2023-11-28T16:27:08.96Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "60"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Education"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Education"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2023-11-20", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Extended Services"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Education, what assessment she has made of the adequacy of two hours of wraparound care for reception age children.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4591", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Sarah Olney"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Richmond Park"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Sarah Olney"} ], "uin" : "2711"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1151110", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Treasury"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1151110/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "HMRC have safeguarding procedures for apprentices who are training in HMRC. The UK Government shares the deep concern of the international community regarding the deteriorating political and economic situation. Since April, there have been more than 80 deaths during protests.

This is a critical time for Venezuela, and UK concerns over the situation have led Venezuela to be designated a FCO Human Rights Priority Country.

I met the Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Samuel Moncada, in his previous role as Minister for Europe on 26 October. I raised UK concerns at the deteriorating situation and encouraged the Venezuelan Government to accept offers of international aid to address chronic shortages of basic food and medical supplies.

In March, I hosted a delegation of Deputies from the Venezuelan National Assembly and stressed the importance of an independent and empowered legislature. I issued a statement on 31 March echoing these views, following the Venezuelan Supreme Court's attempt to wrest power from the National Assembly.

In May, then Minister for Human Rights, Baroness Anelay visited Caracas and delivered clear messages to senior government and opposition figures, expressing our concern at the political situation and the need to respect the freedom of speech and the right to peaceful protests.

Following the 5 July attack on the National Assembly and its Deputies by pro-Government supporters, I issued a statement condemning the attack and calling for the Venezuelan Government to uphold the constitution and show respect for its democratic institutions.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/343", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Sir Alan Duncan"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Rutland and Melton"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Sir Alan Duncan"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2017-07-12", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2017-07-12T15:05:05.133Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "16"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign and Commonwealth Office"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign and Commonwealth Office"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2017-07-04", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Venezuela: Human Rights"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what representations the Government has made to the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela on reported human rights violations in that country.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4412", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Dr Lisa Cameron"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Dr Lisa Cameron"} ], "uin" : "2711"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/381509", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Department of Health"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/381509/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

In January 2009, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) published an interventional procedure guidance (IPG282) on the insertion of mesh uterine suspension sling (including sacrohysteropexy) for uterine prolapse repair.

The guidance found that the evidence on the safety and efficacy of the procedure was inadequate in quantity and recommends it should only be used with special arrangements for clinical governance, consent and audit or research.

Where uterine prolapse repair is needed, surgeons and patients should discuss the range of options, including sacrohysteropexy where it is clinically appropriate, in line with the NICE guidance.
