The Department is working with its partners across Government, arm\u2019s length bodies, local authorities, industry and the wider health and care system to ensure that all relevant parties are prepared for exiting the European Union. The quality and safety of patient care is paramount in our preparedness plans.<\/p>

In August 2019, the Department published up-to-date guidance on GOV.UK on what local authorities can do to prepare for EU Exit. This covers a range of issues including workforce, business continuity planning, data sharing, and the continuity of supply of medicines, medical devices and clinical consumables, and of non-clinical goods and services. It also provides key contact information and signposts where local authorities and providers can go for further support. We continue to work closely with the health and social care sector to ensure that this guidance is accurate, practical and up-to-date.<\/p>
The Department, in consultation with the devolved administrations, has been working with trade bodies, product suppliers, and the health and care system in England to make detailed plans that should help ensure continuation of the supply of medical products to the whole of the United Kingdom and its Crown Dependencies following the UK\u2019s departure from the EU<\/p>
The Department, alongside NHS England and NHS Improvement, are ensuring that there is regular communication with frontline NHS organisations and stakeholders in the health and social care sector regarding EU Exit preparations. The Department is working closely with local authorities, other government departments and with national partners, including the Local Government Association and the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services, to do everything appropriate to prepare for a \u2018no deal\u2019 exit from the European Union on 31 October 2019. An Urgent Notification was invoked at HMP Bristol on 13th June 2019. There has been some progress at HMP Bristol under Special Measures to bolster staff to a sufficient level, reduce illicit drug use and improve living conditions by refurbishing a wing and a number of the showers. However, we know more support is needed. The Secretary of State will publish his response and an initial action plan within 28 calendar days (on 11th<\/sup> July) in response to the most serious and urgent concerns raised.<\/p><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table> Immediate action has been taken to ensure prisoners can speak to Samaritans on their in-cell phones. In addition, action has been taken to address issues raised regarding the safer custody hotline and prevent issues from recurring, so prisoners\u2019 family and friends can report any concerns about a prisoner\u2019s welfare directly to the prison.<\/p>"}
