The department intervened in the Goodred v Portsmouth City Council judicial review as a neutral party to assist the court in understanding relevant guidance and legislation. A judgment was handed down on 16 November 2021, where the claim was dismissed on all grounds.<\/p>
The government has substantially strengthened its guidance to local authorities on exercising their powers in relation to elective home education. The revised guidance, which was published in April 2019, sets out the steps that local authorities should take to satisfy themselves that the education provided by parents at home is suitable, and the actions that they can take if they are not satisfied. This guidance will be reviewed again in due course.<\/p>

The Department sets the tariff for placements and as set out in the draft workforce strategy, Facing the Facts, Shaping the Future \u2013 A draft health and care workforce strategy for England to 2027<\/em>, Health Education England (HEE) will advise ministers in spring 2018 on their assessment of options for reforming undergraduate and postgraduate tariffs to better support clinical learning environments and a larger learner population; including primary care. A copy of Facing the Facts, Shaping the Future <\/em>is attached.<\/p> <\/p>
HEE has implemented a range of improvements to increase the number of general practitioner (GP) training places to 3,250 each year. In 2017 3,157 new starters were recruited to training posts \u2013 this is the highest number of GP trainees ever.<\/p>

NHS England, HEE, the British Medical Association and Royal College of General Practitioners have been working together to increase the number of medical students choosing to enter specialty GP training.<\/p>

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency is currently revising the MOT Inspection Manual for cars and light goods vehicles to enable compliance with EU Directive 2014/45/EU.
