At the last Spending Review, the department was allocated over £2 billion to help tackle homelessness and rough sleeping. We have allocated the vast majority of this funding across our core programmes.

We are providing over £1 billion through the Homelessness Prevention Grant over three years, including a £109 million top-up this year. Temporary accommodation is an important way of ensuring no family is without a roof over their head. The Government is committed to reducing the need for temporary accommodation by preventing homelessness before it occurs in the first place.

The department continues to work with local authorities and partners in the voluntary and community sector to tackle homelessness and rough sleeping, including to assess the effectiveness of our interventions on homelessness and rough sleeping.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4821", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Felicity Buchan"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Kensington"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Felicity Buchan"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2023-11-13", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "groupedQuestionUIN" : [{"_value" : "21"} , {"_value" : "310"} , {"_value" : "311"} , {"_value" : "438"} ], "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2023-11-13T15:22:23.37Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "211"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Levelling Up, Housing and Communities"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Levelling Up, Housing and Communities"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2023-11-07", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Homelessness: Finance"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, whether he has made an assessment of the potential impact of increasing Homeless Prevention Grant funding for local authorities before 2025 on the number of homelessness individuals.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/163", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Sir Stephen Timms"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "East Ham"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Sir Stephen Timms"} ], "uin" : "20"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1461508", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1461508/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

Improving mental health is at the heart of this Government’s agenda and capital investment to modernise the mental health estate is a key part of the Government’s ambition to achieve greater parity between physical and mental health care.

The Government has announced investments of over £400 million in improving the mental health estate since July 2017. Most recently this included £72.3 million for Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust to develop a new adult mental health inpatient unit and £33 million to Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust for a 40-bed low secure unit for people with learning disabilities, both of which were included in the £850 million capital funding for 20 hospital upgrades announced by the Prime Minister on 5 August. In addition, the Department spent almost £19 million capital last year on central programmes to support mental health services. This includes schemes to deliver Perinatal Mental Health Mother and Baby Units to deliver more personalised care to expectant and new mums with serious mental ill health.

As set out in the new Health Infrastructure Plan on 30 September, the Government is committed to making further strategic investments to modernise mental health facilities, which will be confirmed when the Department receives a multiyear capital settlement at the next capital review.

The Government assessed the equality and human rights impacts of this policy fully, throughout policy development and in preparation for its implementation, thus meeting its obligations under the Public Sector Equality Duty, and ensuring compliance with the Human Rights Act 1998. Ministers have also taken account of that duty during the formulation of the exceptions to the policy. Consequently, it is the Government’s position that this policy is compliant with its obligations under the Equality Act 2010, the European Convention on Human Rights and the UN Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women.

The UK Government does not promote or support abortion on the grounds of gender. The practice of sex selection is not caused by the availability of abortion services or technologies but is a consequence of deep rooted discrimination against women, poverty and cultural preference for sons. Our work on girls' education, women's empowerment, skills and jobs aims to increase the ‘value’ of girls and women in society and therefore tackle the pressures and incentives that drive preferences for male children.
