The Environment Agency (EA) determined 28 new waste installation permits for the financial year 2021-22. Waste installation permits are required for activities such as incineration and co-incineration of waste, landfills, other forms of disposal of waste, recovery of waste, temporary or underground storage of hazardous waste and treatment of wastewater.

The Environment Agency (EA) is working through a backlog of work. Where appropriate it is expediting critical cases and those linked to Government priorities such as green growth and infrastructure. The EA is taking significant steps to recover and improve services going forward: actively recruiting more staff and using rolling recruitment campaigns. It has brought in contractors and reassignment of staff from its laboratory service no longer required to support Coronavirus sewage testing.

A rigorous improvement programme is in place to drive efficiency and better responsiveness to business, including the introduction of more specialist teams to deliver complex and high environmental risk work as well as improved advice for applicants. No specific analysis has been undertaken. However, the Committee on the Medical Effects of Air Pollutants has assessed the long-term exposure to man-made air pollution in the United Kingdom, based on studies reporting associations of mortality risk with fine particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide. It was estimated that for a one microgram per cubic metre reduction in nitrogen dioxide, approximately 420,000 to 903,000 life years could be saved in the UK over the next 106 years, associated with an increase in life expectancy at birth of two to five days.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4447", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Maggie Throup"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Erewash"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Maggie Throup"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2022-05-19", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2022-05-19T08:42:46.5Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "17"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Health and Social Care"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Health and Social Care"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2022-05-16", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Air Pollution: Pollution Control"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, whether he has analysis to show by how much particulate matter emissions need to be reduced in order to reduce premature deaths caused by air pollution in the UK by half.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/155", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Geraint Davies"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Swansea West"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Geraint Davies"} ], "uin" : "2344"} ], "itemsPerPage" : 10, "next" : "https://eldaddp.azurewebsites.net/answeredquestions.text?min-answer.dateOfAnswer=2019-06-11&tablingMember.label=Biography+information+for+Geraint+Davies&_page=1&max-questionFirstAnswered.=2022-06-23T09%3A48%3A27.727Z", "page" : 0, "startIndex" : 1, "totalResults" : 517, "type" : ["http://purl.org/linked-data/api/vocab#ListEndpoint", "http://purl.org/linked-data/api/vocab#Page"]} }
