We recognise that faith-based leaders can play a helpful role in promoting peace and reconciliation amongst the diverse ethnic and religious communities of Syria and Iraq. We regularly engage with faith leaders and faith-based Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) in the UK and the MENA region to discuss the situation of religious communities.

In Syria through our Conflict, Stability and Security Fund, we are supporting projects to promote community cohesion and dialogue between different ethnic and religious groups. However the ongoing violent conflict and displacement of Syrians from all ethnic and religious backgrounds throughout Syria, the region and beyond makes this work particularly challenging.

In Iraq, we are supporting Prime Minister Abadi and the Government of Iraq in its efforts to deliver the reforms and reconciliation needed to rebuild public trust in the Iraqi state and unite all Iraqis against extremism.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/1201", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Alistair Burt"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "North East Bedfordshire"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Alistair Burt"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2018-04-30", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2018-04-30T16:30:21.257Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "16"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign and Commonwealth Office"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign and Commonwealth Office"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2018-04-19", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Middle East: Religious Freedom"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what assessment he has made of the potential merits of using faith-based leaders as facilitators to promote peace and reconciliation amongst the ethnic and religious communities in Syria and Iraq.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4603", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Preet Kaur Gill"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Birmingham, Edgbaston"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Preet Kaur Gill"} ], "uin" : "136620"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/887053", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Department of Health and Social Care"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/887053/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

The Department has made no assessment of the potential savings to be accrued to the public purse from the return of unused medicines to the National Health Service.

The Department is concerned about wastage from unused medicines and is keen to minimise unnecessary extra costs. However, it does not promote the reuse of medicines that have left the pharmacy and been returned to a pharmacy by patients, as it is not possible to guarantee the quality of a returned medicine on physical inspection alone. When medicines are returned from patients’ homes, there is no way of knowing how the medicines have been stored or handled.

It is up to schools to decide what training their staff need in order to provide the right support to pupils. According to the Government’s ‘Supporting Mental Health in Schools and Colleges survey’, 90% of schools offered staff training on supporting pupils' mental health and wellbeing (47% all staff, 43% at least some staff) and 49% had a dedicated lead for mental health. The survey can be viewed here: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/664855/Transforming_children_and_young_people_s_mental_health_provision.pdf.

The green paper ‘Transforming Children and Young People’s Mental Health Provision’, which is also attached, sets out proposals to improve support for schools to identify those pupils who need mental health support, backed with over £300 million of funding. As part of this, the Government will incentivise schools to put in place Designated Senior Leads (DSLs) for mental health, and will provide training on how to promote and support good mental health and wellbeing. DSLs will be supported by new, clinically supervised Mental Health Support Teams based in or near schools, which will provide support for those with mild to moderate needs, as well as better links to specialist NHS services for those who need them.
