This Government is committed to ratifying the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (\u201cthe Istanbul Convention\u201d).<\/p>
The UK already has some of the most robust protections in the world against violence towards women and we already comply with the vast majority of the articles in the Istanbul Convention. This includes those related to protecting women and girls, whatever type of violence or abuse they may have been subjected to and irrespective of their immigration status.<\/p>
The UK Government is liaising with the devolved administrations about ratification, including any further legislative steps necessary.<\/p>

The matching of electoral registers against Government and local authority data, referred to as \u2018confirmation,\u2019 was a one off exercise to help simplify the change to Individual Electoral Registration (IER). It resulted in 87% of existing electors being automatically transferred to the new registers under IER without needing to take any action. Data matching continues to form an important part of the system for voter registration, in verifying new applications, but also locally in identifying and verifying applications from eligible electors.
