Decisions on the routine availability of medicines, such as Zoledronic acid, are made locally by clinical commissioning groups (CCGs). CCGs make funding decisions based on the needs of their population. Commissioning is about getting the best possible health outcomes for the local population and this involves assessing local needs to inform priorities and strategies.

Under their terms of service, clinicians are allowed to prescribe any product which they consider to be a medicine necessary for the treatment of their patients under the National Health Service, subject to two provisos: firstly, that the product is not included in Schedules 1 or 2 to the NHS (General Medical Services Contracts)(Prescription of Drugs etc.) Regulations 2004 and secondly, that the clinician is prepared to justify any challenges to their prescribing by their local CCG.

Decisions on whether to routinely fund medicines should be taken in the context of the CCGs available resources to ensure that care is fairly allocated to all patients and, where appropriate, measured against the CCGs other service development priorities.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4067", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Steve Brine"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Winchester"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Steve Brine"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2018-12-05", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2018-12-05T16:47:52.573Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "17"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Health and Social Care"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Health and Social Care"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2018-11-30", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Zoledronic Acid"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, if he will take steps to ensure that there is equality geographically in the availability of Zoledronic acid for breast cancer treatment.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/1538", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Rosie Cooper"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "West Lancashire"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Rosie Cooper"} ], "uin" : "197655"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1017446", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Department for Work and Pensions"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1017446/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

The Department is committed to delivering managed migration in a way that supports all claimants as they transition onto Universal Credit. Managed migration will begin with a lengthy and robust testing period, to ensure our processes are working well before we begin to migrate at scale.

In the first year we will only managed migrate 10,000 people to ensure we are moving people as carefully and sensitively as possible. We recognise that providing high-quality and timely communications will be essential to ensure that all claimants are fully aware of their responsibilities under the managed migration process. We are working closely with a large and diverse number of stakeholders to co-design the managed migration process which includes considering how we can best communicate with and support claimants through the process, to ensure a smooth transition onto Universal Credit.

As part of this testing phase, we will be trialling a variety of communication methods and will engage with claimants’ representatives so we can be confident that the process will work for all claimants.

Information will continue to be made available about Universal Credit for all claimants at https://www.gov.uk/universal-credit.

It is open to all sportspeople in the UK to represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland where appropriate. In addition, both the UK Government and UK Sport recognise the birthright of all the people of Northern Ireland to identify themselves and be accepted as Irish or British, or both, as they may so choose. This right extends to athletes from Northern Ireland having the choice to represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland or Ireland at a national level in their given sport should they wish to do so. At times this will be subject to the overarching rules applied by the individual Governing Bodies of the sport.

Sporting matters are devolved, and eligibility and selection for international competition remain matters for the relevant sports authorities.
