Physical Education (PE) is compulsory at all four Key Stages in the National Curriculum. While this does not apply directly to AP, the Department\u2019s statutory guidance advises that AP should enable pupils to \u2018achieve good educational attainment on par with their mainstream peers\u2019 and to study \u2018appropriate accreditation and qualifications\u2019.<\/p>
<\/p>
Through the primary PE and sport premium, the Government has provided over £600 million to primary schools, including primary pupil referral units, to be spent on the improvement of PE and sport. From September 2017 the Government doubled funding for the premium to £320 million a year. In 2018-19 the Department is providing schools with £100 million Healthy Pupils Capital Fund to support them to improve access to facilities for physical activity, healthy eating, mental health and wellbeing and medical conditions. Local authorities and large multi academy trusts can determine how to allocate this funding to best meet the needs of all pupils, including those pupils educated in pupil referral units they are directly responsible for.<\/p>"}

The Government signed the Istanbul Convention to signal the UK\u2019s strong commitment to tackling violence against women and girls (VAWG). As the recently published progress report sets out, in most respects the UK already complies with, or goes further than the Convention requires. We have significantly strengthened the legislative framework; introduced new protective tools; and issued a range of guidance and support for frontline professionals.<\/p>
<\/strong><\/p>We have always been clear on our commitment to ratifying the Convention. The Domestic Abuse Bill will be another step towards meeting that commitment by extending extraterritorial jurisdiction over offences required by the Convention which, for England and Wales, is the final legislative step necessary for ratification. We are committed to consulting widely as we develop the proposals for the draft Domestic Abuse Bill. We are keen to hear from experts, including charities, service providers and legal experts, to understand their views and ensure that the voices of domestic abuse victims and survivors are heard. This will take place shortly.<\/p>
<\/p>
As the criminal law and the majority of the areas covered by the Convention are devolved to Scotland and Northern Ireland, the Devolved Administrations are considering what legislative or other changes are necessary for compliance with the Convention in their territories. The Government liaises regularly with the Devolved Administrations on VAWG issues and we will continue working closely with the Scottish Government and Northern Ireland Executive to ensure we are taking a coordinated approach on this agenda.<\/p>
<\/p>
We are also in ongoing discussions with the voluntary and community sector on these issues, and in line with the requirement of section 2 of the Preventing and Combating Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence <\/em>(Ratification of Convention) Act 2017<\/em>, we will set out a timetable for ratification in due course.<\/p>"}
