The Government is reforming the skills system to better support people to get the skills our economy needs, which is essential to addressing labour shortages.<\/p>
<\/p>
The Government is supporting employers in all sectors to develop the skilled workforces they need by investing £3.8 billion more in further education and skills over the Parliament, offering flexible training through Skills Bootcamps, and increased investment in apprenticeships.<\/p>
<\/p>
In December 2022, the Government published its response to the consultation \u201cmaking flexible working the default\u201d. This committed to make changes to the Right to Request Flexible Working to boost availability, several of which are being taken forward through the Employment Relations (Flexible Working) Bill.<\/p>
<\/p>
Additionally, the Department for Work and Pensions are reviewing workforce participation and how we can attract and retain workers, particularly older workers. Pet dogs, cats and ferrets are strictly defined within the pet travel legislation as Canis lupis familiaris<\/em> (domestic dog), Felis silvestris catus<\/em> (domestic cat) and Mustela putorius furo<\/em> (ferret). Movements of these pet animals must be accompanied by documentation verifying identification, valid rabies vaccinations, a rabies blood test (if required) and, if relevant, treatment against the tapeworm Echinococcus multilocularis<\/em>.<\/p> <\/p> Under the current legislation, documentation can only be issued to domestic dogs, cats and ferrets. Other species are not permitted to travel under the pet travel or commercial import rules. We consider that the legislation governing these movements is fit for purpose.<\/p> <\/p> Animals other than domestic animals must be entered into a zoo-approved quarantine premises and an import licence is required.<\/p>"}

The Government\u2019s Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS) covers most people who receive most of their income from self-employment. In addition, for criminal legal aid practitioners, we have provided greater access to hardship payments from the Legal Aid Agency to allow practitioners to claim one month after they were first instructed instead of six, and to lower the threshold for work done on a case from £5,000 to £450. We also note that the four Inns of Court have created a package of measures to assist junior barristers and that an emergency fund by the Barristers\u2019 Benevolent Association and hardship funds from the inns are being introduced. We continue to keep the situation under review in the light of developing recovery plans.<\/p>"}
