The probate service received record levels of applications during 2022 and this has continued to grow with higher levels of receipts during January to June 2023 compared to the same period in 2022.

HMCTS has significantly increased staffing levels in Probate over the past year to help process applications faster. The training and upskilling of those new and existing staff have led to applications taking longer in the short term.

HMCTS have streamlined internal processes to cut down on administrative delay and reduce processing times. We are continuing to invest in improving digital systems and online filing capabilities so users can track progress more easily.

Average waiting times for probate grants are routinely published on gov.uk via Family Court Statistics Quarterly and currently cover the period up to June 2023.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4004", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Mike Freer"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Finchley and Golders Green"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Mike Freer"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2023-12-05", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2023-12-05T14:04:34.033Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "54"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Justice"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Justice"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2023-11-27", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Probate: Waiting Lists"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, what steps he is taking to help reduce waiting times for grant of probate.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4610", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Bambos Charalambous"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Enfield, Southgate"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Bambos Charalambous"} ], "uin" : "3892"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1316252", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Department of Health and Social Care"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1316252/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

For National Health Service staff we are planning a pay uplift despite a general pause across the public sector. For adult social care we have given councils an additional £1 billion to ensure key priorities are met, including paying care workers at least the National Living Wage. Many of the lowest paid care workers will have benefitted from at least a 2.2% pay rise.

We have put in place a comprehensive mental health and wellbeing offer that includes a 24 hours a day, seven days a week helpline and specialist bereavement support and a further £37 million investment is ensuring that the 40 mental health and wellbeing hubs continue to provide rapid support and outreach services through 2021/22. These hubs are accessible by both NHS and social care staff.

Hubs in Coventry and the West Midlands were launched in March and are offering psychological therapy for trauma, anxiety and depression and providing mental health training for managers to hold supportive and compassionate health and wellbeing conversations.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4527", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Helen Whately"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Faversham and Mid Kent"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Helen Whately"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2021-07-05", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "previousAnswerVersion" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1316252/answer/previousversion/2272", "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4527", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Helen Whately"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Faversham and Mid Kent"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Helen Whately"} } , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2021-07-05T11:41:34.517Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "17"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Health and Social Care"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Health and Social Care"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2021-05-19", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "NHS and Social Services: Coronavirus"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what (a) financial and (b) other steps his Department is taking to support the health and social care workforce in (i) Coventry, (ii) the West Midlands and (iii) England during the covid-19 outbreak.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4378", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Colleen Fletcher"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Coventry North East"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Colleen Fletcher"} ], "uin" : "3892"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1171132", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1171132/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

We plan to publish the Government’s response later this year. It is therefore our intention to implement changes to the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation as soon as possible.

To date, the Green Investment Bank (GIB) has helped finance two projects in the Merseyside area.

In December 2013, GIB committed £20m to the design, build and operation of a new ‘energy from waste’ plant on behalf of the Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority. The facility, located in Teesside, will each year convert into energy more than 420,000 tonnes of residual waste from six boroughs in the Merseyside and Halton area. I understand the project is expected to create 49 permanent jobs and 2 apprenticeships at the Teesside plant and another 20 permanent jobs and 1 apprentice at the Merseyside rail freight facilities as well as many more jobs (approximately 100) during the construction phase.

In November 2014, GIB committed £30.1m to a new Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Plant in Widnes, the North West’s largest waste wood renewable power facility. I understand the project is expected to create 20 permanent jobs and many more jobs (approximately 200) during construction.
