We have a <a href=\"https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/new-build-developments-consultation-delivering-gigabit-capable-connections\" target=\"_blank\">technical consultation<\/a> underway on proposed new legal requirements for developers along with associated draft statutory guidance; this closes on 28 February.<\/p><p>As a result of the government's approach to encourage competition in the broadband market, over 65% of premises can today access gigabit-capable networks - up from just one in ten in November 2019. The sector has also benefited from record levels of investment.<\/p><p>Infrastructure sharing can reduce the cost and environmental burden of overbuild. We have taken a number of steps to encourage the sharing of passive infrastructure in the UK. This includes launching a <a href=\"https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/review-of-the-access-to-infrastructure-regulations-call-for-evidence/review-of-the-access-to-infrastructure-regulations-call-for-evidence-government-response\" target=\"_blank\">Review of the Access to Infrastructure Regulations<\/a>.The Government also welcomes <a href=\"https://www.ofcom.org.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0022/216085/wftmr-statement-volume-1-overview.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Ofcom\u2019s Wholesale Fixed Telecoms Market Review<\/a>, which encourages competitive build in the majority of the UK.<\/p><p> <\/p><p> <\/p>"}
