The UK has committed a package of £6.5 million in humanitarian aid to respond to the most severe needs in Venezuela and the region, including funding the International Federation of the Red Cross in Colombia. The UK has provided a further £8 million to the World Bank\u2019s Global Concessional Financing Facility (GCFF) for Colombia, helping to unlock USD$750 million of concessional loans to support Colombia in continuing to host more than a million Venezuelans.<\/p>

DFID has had staff deployed in the region since last year and this package builds on our core support to the UN and Red Cross, operating since the early stages of the crisis.<\/p>

The Venezuelan health system has collapsed, formerly controlled preventable diseases need to be controlled and this is leading to further outbreaks within neighbouring countries.<\/p>

The UK has stepped up and has announced an emergency aid package of £6.5 million to respond to the most severe health needs by providing immunisations against deadly diseases, supporting emergency rooms and ensuring that people who are fleeing their homes have access to crucial support, including through the provision of mobile health clinics.<\/p>

Additionally, DFID has deployed two humanitarian advisors to the region and funded seven additional roles within UN agencies to help respond to the crisis. We provide significant core funding to the UN, Red Cross movement and other international actors to alleviate the worsening humanitarian situation. The UK\u2019s core funding to the World Health Organisation (WHO) is helping to address health needs in the region.<\/p>

Despite efforts by the UK to urge the Venezuelan Government to accept humanitarian aid, they continue to deny the existence of a humanitarian crisis.<\/p>
DFID is supporting the relief effort within the region through partners such as United Nations agencies, the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), the European Commission and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).<\/p>
The European Commission announced a \u20ac35m aid package this year of which the UK\u2019s share is approximately 15%. In addition, the UK is a longstanding supporter of the CERF which allocated $26m to the region. The UK is the largest donor to the fund since inception and in 2017 represented 20% of the fund\u2019s total contributions. This year the UK has contributed £55m to the CERF which will support responses to humanitarian needs across the globe, including in response to the Venezuelan crisis.
