We believe that offering older and more vulnerable people a better choice of accommodation to suit their changing needs can help them to live independently and feel more connected to their communities.<\/p><p>Boosting the supply of a range of specialist housing for older people, including housing with care, will be key to achieving this aim. Both the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities and the Department of Health and Social Care continue to provide capital funding to incentivise their supply.<\/p><p>As set out in the Department of Health and Social Care\u2019s recent white paper, <em>People at the Heart of Care<\/em>, a new £300 million investment will embed the strategic commitment to connect housing with health and care in all local places and drive the stock of new supported housing.<\/p><p>We remain committed to working closely with a range of stakeholders to look at how we can further support the growth of a thriving older people\u2019s housing sector. This includes considering the merits of different engagement and delivery models, including proposals from the sector for a cross-Government taskforce.<\/p>"}

However, we recognise that supported housing, including housing-with-care, can be the best model of care for some people, leading to better health, greater independence and closer connection with the community. An independent pre-evaluation scoping exercise commissioned by the Department has found good evidence for the benefits of extra care housing for older people.<\/p><p>We will continue to incentivise the supply of supported housing through the Care and Support Specialised Housing Fund, alongside a new £300 million investment to embed the strategic commitment in all local places to connect housing with health and care and drive the stock of new supported housing. We will work in partnership with local authorities, housing providers and others to design and establish our new investment.<\/p><p>Our white paper on the reform of adult social care includes our strategy to build a workforce which is well-trained, developed, healthy, supported, sustainable and recognised. Reforming the way care is delivered has significant potential to manage demand for the adult social care workforce as part of longer-term planning.<\/p>"}
