The Government has audited the cost-effectiveness of all equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) activities, through the review of EDI spending announced last June.<\/p>
On 14th May the Minister without Portfolio made a written statement on the latest findings from the review.<\/p>
In response to these findings, the Cabinet Office is publishing the Civil Service EDI Expenditure Guidance. This includes an end to all external spending on EDI activity, unless cleared and authorised by Ministers.<\/p>
Further guidance on diversity staff networks is being developed, and we will seek to publish additional data on historic spending to assist transparency in this area.<\/p>

Under the Public Sector Equality Duty (the Duty) all public authorities, including Government departments, are required by law to ensure that they have due regard to certain equality considerations when carrying out their functions. Through the Government\u2019s National Cyber Security Programme, my Department is delivering an ambitious set of initiatives to support the growth of and investment in cyber security companies across the United Kingdom, including those from Northern Ireland. In particular, we provide opportunities for early stage companies from across the UK to be represented at selected events where they can showcase their technologies and expertise in order to secure investment. We are also funding the delivery of two cyber innovation centres which are open to companies from across the UK.<\/del><\/p>We are also funding the delivery of \u2018Hut Zero\u2019, an accelerator programme for individuals with cyber security ideas , and \u2018Cyber 101\u2019 business training \u2018bootcamps\u2019 for early stage companies, some of which are being delivered in Northern Ireland. I am particularly delighted that Queen\u2019s University Belfast\u2019s Centre for Secure Information Technology is playing a pivotal role in the delivery of both of those initiatives.<\/del><\/p>
