We are committed to promoting the Arts and culture outside London, and continue to work closely with the Arts Council to ensure that the whole of the country has access to funding for arts and cultural programmes.

Last year 70% of Arts Council's lottery</ins>total</del> funding was awarded outside London. Between 2018 and 2022 an additional £170 million of National Portfolio Organisation funding will be invested outside London.

In addition, the recent Cultural Development Fund has seen £20 million of funding shared between five towns and cities outside of the capital, while programmes such as Creative People and Places and the City of Culture programme continue to focus outside of the capital.

DCMS has also recently announced an additional £4 million of funding for the DCMS/Wolfson Museums and Galleries Improvement Fund. In 2019/20, 35 museums and galleries will benefit from this funding which aims to improve audience experience. Over 80% of regional museums outside London will receive money from this Fund.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4116", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Sir Michael Ellis"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Northampton North"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Michael Ellis"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2019-05-13", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "true", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "previousAnswerVersion" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1125304/answer/previousversion/117364", "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4116", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Sir Michael Ellis"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Northampton North"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Michael Ellis"} } , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2019-05-13T11:01:57.163Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ], "questionFirstMinisteriallyCorrected" : [{"_value" : "2019-05-14T10:50:06.633Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "10"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Digital, Culture, Media and Sport"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Digital, Culture, Media and Sport"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2019-05-08", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Culture: Finance"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, what steps the Government is taking to (a) protect and (b) increase funding for arts and culture outside London.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/308", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Mr Jim Cunningham"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Coventry South"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Mr Jim Cunningham"} ], "uin" : "251910"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1122668", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1122668/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

Government recognises the important role that the creative industries play in driving local growth and creating new opportunities in places across the UK.

To support the UK’s world-leading cultural and creative businesses, the government and industry invested £150 million in the Creative Industries Sector Deal.

The Deal announced several proposals including a £20 million ‘Cultural Development Fund’ (CDF) for cities and towns in England to bid for creative and cultural investment. As part of the competitive grant application process, the following towns and cities were successful in their CDF application: Worcester, Wakefield, Thames Estuary, Plymouth and Grimsby. In addition, a £39m ‘Creative Industries Cluster Programme’ funding for nine R&D partnerships has been set up across the UK.

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport also funds Arms Length Bodies such as Arts Council England which invest in arts and culture on a regional basis.

According to Arts Council England, National Portfolio Organisations in Cornwall - many of which are defined as Creative Industries - will receive up to £10 million in funding between 2018-22. In addition, a further £5.96 million has been invested in Music Education Hubs and Grants for the Arts between 2013 and 2019

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) funds a number of cultural events and organisations outside of funding for Arts Council England. Events include Hull City of Culture 2017 and the Great Exhibition of the North in 2018 which will celebrate and showcase the best of art, culture and design in those regions. Alongside support for the First World War Centenary commemoration events and numerous cultural capital projects, DCMS directly funds our national museums and galleries such as the British Museum, National Gallery, Tate, the Science Museum Group and National Museums Liverpool. Further information on the Government's funding commitments for culture can be found in the recently published Culture White Paper, a copy of which is available from the House Library.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/1580", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Lord Vaizey of Didcot"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Wantage"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Mr Edward Vaizey"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2016-05-09", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2016-05-09T15:23:59.22Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "10"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Culture, Media and Sport"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Culture, Media and Sport"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2016-05-04", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Culture: Finance"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, what cultural events and organisations are directly funded by his Department, outside of funding for the Arts Councils; and where those events and organisations are located.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4124", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Chi Onwurah"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Newcastle upon Tyne Central"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Chi Onwurah"} ], "uin" : "36437"} ], "itemsPerPage" : 10, "next" : "https://eldaddp.azurewebsites.net/answeredquestions.text?_page=1&hansardHeading=Culture%3A+Finance&max-answer.questionFirstAnswered.=2020-01-27T17%3A12%3A46.857Z", "page" : 0, "startIndex" : 1, "totalResults" : 13, "type" : ["http://purl.org/linked-data/api/vocab#ListEndpoint", "http://purl.org/linked-data/api/vocab#Page"]} }
