The Government\u2019s commitment to funding cancer research has not changed because of the referendum.<\/p>
<\/p>
Rare and paediatric cancer research, along with all cancer research, is a strong priority for the Government including through the National Institute for Health Research, which has invested £745 million in cancer research from 2010/11 to 2015/16.<\/p>
<\/p>
My Rt. hon. Friend the Prime Minister has made it clear that we want to work closely with Europe in science and research, stating in a speech on 3 March: \u201cthe UK is also committed to establishing a far-reaching science and innovation pact with the EU, facilitating the exchange of ideas and researchers. This would enable the UK to participate in key programmes alongside our EU partners\u201d.<\/p>

My Rt. hon. Friend the Chancellor has also said that the Treasury will guarantee EU structural and investment funding, promised before the Autumn Statement. To retain the UK\u2019s position as a world leader in research and innovation we recognise that the UK needs to continue to attract the brightest and best with high level skills who can support the research and innovation sector.<\/p>
On 6 September the government published Collaboration on science and innovation - a future partnership paper, which is intended to start a full and open discussion with the EU about all of the options for continued collaboration. The UK will look to build on its unique relationship with the EU and establish an agreement on science and innovation that ensures the valuable research links between us continue to grow. The UK would like to work with the EU on designing this agreement, and would welcome a full and open discussion about all of the options for continued collaboration, including options to facilitate the mobility of researchers engaged in cross-border collaboration.<\/p>
We have already taken steps to recruit and retain the best international researchers by committing to invest over £100 million over the next four years to attract the brightest minds to the UK.<\/p>

There are established processes for considering and approving new treatments for use in the National Health Service. All unlicensed cancer drug use and the vast majority of specialised cancer surgical procedures are subject to NHS England\u2019s Specialised Commissioning policy development process. MRC expenditure on cancer research includes research into the biology, causes, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer as well as research on outcomes.
