Cabinet Office has a whistleblowing policy and procedure in place which allows for civil servants to report a perceived wrongdoing within the department, including something that they believe goes against the core values in the Civil Service Code. The Public Interest Disclosure Act 1998 (PIDA) will apply in some of these cases, and provides protection to those that \u2018blow the whistle\u2019 in certain circumstances.<\/p>
<\/strong><\/p> The figures provided in the table below show the total number of whistleblowing cases that were protected disclosures under PIDA (A).<\/p> <\/strong><\/p> The table goes on to show the number of cases found to be valid under PIDA (B), the number of employees that alleged detriment as a result of the disclosure under PIDA (C), and finally the number of employees who made a disclosure under PIDA, alleged detriment as a result of a disclosure and subsequently left the department (D).<\/p> <\/strong><\/p> <\/p><\/td> A. Updated and refreshed model whistleblowing policies are in place across all departments, providing information on sources of support available to whistleblowers, including access to employee assistance programmes, and advice on accessing legal support. In addition, we have improved support for Nominated Offices, and Departments have introduced dedicated whistleblowing hotlines and are publishing case studies on departmental intranet sites to build confidence that cases will be heard fairly and appropriately.<\/p> The Cabinet Office has developed a new data collection tool to enable HR Directors to collect information on whistleblowing cases including how cases have been resolved, identification of systemic issues, and lessons learned. Departments are using this tool to report to their Departmental Boards, and to the Cabinet Office, on a 6 monthly basis.<\/p>
