HM Treasury are responsible for setting government departmental budgets. Children’s social care budgets are set by local authorities from their non-ringfenced core spending power to allow councils freedom to spend according to need and local priorities.

In 2022/23, councils have access to over £54 billion in core spending power for their services, including for children and young people. This is £3.7 billion more than in 2021/22. As part of this, the government has increased the social care grant, which has risen from £410 million in 2019 to £2.35 billion this year.

Local authorities have increased spending on children’s services over time. In 2020/21 councils spent £11.1 billion on children and young people’s services. This is 23% (£2.05bn) higher than spend in 2015-16.

As announced in May 2022, the department will consider the recommendations of the Independent Review of Children’s Social Care, the National Panel Review into the murders of Arthur Labinjo-Hughes and Star Hobson, and the Competition and Market Authority study into Children’s Social Care Placements. Plans will be set out for children’s social care reform through an implementation strategy, including cost and funding implications, in due course
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4806", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Claire Coutinho"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "East Surrey"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Claire Coutinho"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2022-11-04", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2022-11-04T15:29:53.557Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "60"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Education"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Education"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2022-10-24", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Social Services: Children"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Education, whether she has made an assessment of the potential impact of public spending cuts on child social care.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4591", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Sarah Olney"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Richmond Park"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Sarah Olney"} ], "uin" : "69753"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1523581", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1523581/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

NHS England continues to invite people who are immunosuppressed for all COVID-19 vaccine doses they are eligible to receive, including booster doses.

Individuals who are immunosuppressed should be invited to book their COVID-19 autumn booster dose by the NHS. GPs or hospital specialists invite those with severe immunosuppression based on clinical judgement of optimal timing for the individual concerned.

Local COVID-19 vaccination sites have been advised by the NHS to allow people with immunosuppression to self-declare their eligibility for a COVID-19 autumn booster vaccination, and they can also attend walk-in sites to make getting their booster vaccination as easy as possible.

The Government continues to be guided by the advice of the independent Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) on the deployment of COVID-19 vaccines.

The Government has accepted the JCVI’s advice that in exceptional circumstances the Novavax vaccine, Nuvaxovid, may be used when no clinically suitable United Kingdom-approved COVID-19 vaccine alternative is available.

The Nuvaxovid vaccine is the current alternative for those who are clinically intolerant to and are unable to receive the COVID-19 mRNA vaccines manufactured by Pfizer and Moderna which are currently in deployment.

Deployment of Nuvaxovid began on 28 September 2022. Nuvaxovid replaces the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, Vaxzevria, as an alternative for a mRNA vaccine.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4679", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Neil O'Brien"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Harborough"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Neil O'Brien"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2022-11-02", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2022-11-02T12:03:29.257Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "17"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Health and Social Care"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Health and Social Care"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2022-10-17", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Coronavirus: Immunosuppression"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, whether people who are immunosuppressed still receive notifications to remind them of their covid-19 booster vaccine eligibility.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4591", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Sarah Olney"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Richmond Park"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Sarah Olney"} ], "uin" : "64246"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1522404", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1522404/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

Section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 requires businesses with a turnover of £36m or more and who operate part of their business in the UK, to report annually on the steps they have taken to prevent modern slavery in their operations and supply chains.

The transparency legislation was designed to enable consumers, investors and civil society to scrutinise business action. In March 2021, the Government launched the Modern Slavery Statement Registry to radically enhance transparency by bringing together modern slavery statements on a single platform and making the data readily available for the public. Since launch, over 8,950 modern slavery statements covering over 30,320 organisations, have been submitted to the registry on a voluntary basis.

The Government is committed to strengthening our approach to modern slavery and building on the world-leading legislation on transparent supply chains introduced in the Modern Slavery Act 2015.

Following a public consultation, the Government committed to taking forward an ambitious package of measures to strengthen the Act’s transparency legislation, including:
