The specific information requested is not available. The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) deals with around 750,000 medical cases each year and aims to complete 90% within 90 working days. The length of time taken to deal with an application following a driving licence being revoked depends on the medical condition involved and whether further information is needed from medical professionals. The table below shows the average working days it took DVLA to make a licensing decision on all medical applications over the last four years.

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) deals with more than 750,000 medical cases every year. There is a dedicated team in place which is responsible for the continuous improvement of all medical driver licensing services and communications. Letters to customers and medical professionals have been improved, helping to ensure that the DVLA receives the information it needs as quickly as possible.

The DVLA has recruited additional staff to process medical applications and notifications, to make licensing decisions quicker. This includes increasing the number of doctors and introducing nurse caseworkers to deal with more complex cases.

The DVLA is also working with third parties, for example, GPs, consultants and opticians, to reduce turnaround times on the additional information it requires to make licensing decisions.

The Department recognises that many of those claiming benefits are particularly vulnerable and we continue to explore ways to improve the customer journey for Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), Universal Credit and Personal Independence Payment (PIP) claimants.

We recognise that attending a Work Capability Assessment or a PIP assessment can be a stressful experience, which is why we do not carry out a face-to-face assessment where there is enough existing evidence to determine benefit entitlement for either benefit.

In addition, those placed in ESA’s Support Group, and the Universal Credit equivalent, who have the most severe and lifelong health conditions or disabilities, whose level of function would always mean that they would have Limited Capability for Work and Work-Related Activity, and be unlikely ever to be able to move into work, will no longer be routinely reassessed.

With regard to PIP, in August 2018, we introduced updated guidance for case managers which will ensure that those who receive the highest level of support under PIP, and where their needs are unlikely to change or may get worse, will now receive an ongoing award with a light touch review at the ten year point.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4071", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Sarah Newton"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Truro and Falmouth"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Sarah Newton"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2018-10-31", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2018-10-31T16:42:45.753Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "29"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Work and Pensions"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Work and Pensions"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2018-10-26", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Social Security Benefits: Disability"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, what assessment she has made of the cumulative effect on people with disabilities of the number of different assessments required to access benefits; and what steps she is taking to reduce that number.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4385", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Dr Philippa Whitford"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Central Ayrshire"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Dr Philippa Whitford"} ], "uin" : "184433"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/993562", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Department for International Development"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/993562/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

Ethiopia was declared polio-free in 2014 and current estimates report that 76% of children in Ethiopia are receiving three doses of polio vaccine. The Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) is supporting Ethiopia with technical assistance to strengthen surveillance systems and with supplementary immunisation campaigns to mitigate the risk of importation from neighbouring countries that are experiencing outbreaks.

It is a key priority for the UK that countries are supported to transition polio funded assets to the national government and partner organisations after GPEI sunsets upon global eradication. Part of the UK’s funding to the World Health Organization (WHO) is conditional on this being met.

Ethiopia has a costed polio transition plan in place and the UK will continue to monitor WHO’s support to Ethiopia for implementing this plan. CMS publishes updates with regards to the value of unpaid maintenance in the Child Maintenance Service Statistics:

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/717223/child-maintenance-service-august-2013-to-march-2018.pdf

In March 2018 there was a total of £197.8m unpaid Child Maintenance which should have been paid through the Collect and Pay service. This equated to 12.1% of the total liability (child maintenance) raised to date since the service began, £1,637.6m, and includes unpaid Child Maintenance under Direct Pay cases which have been transferred to Collect and Pay.

Unpaid Maintenance will continue to accrue as it is impossible to achieve total compliance due to circumstances on individual cases and customer behaviours. CMS sets stretching performance measures to support restricting and reducing the growth of Unpaid Maintenance. The performance measures relate to expectations of compliance through proactive treatment of non-paying cases.
