All new vehicles are tested in accordance with EU law to ensure that they meet the legislated requirements for emissions. There is no evidence that these emissions tests have been falsified in the UK.

The UK has been pressing for action at an EU-level to improve emissions tests and will continue to do so. The current test cycle is recognised as outdated and no longer represents normal driving patterns, and we have been involved in the development of a new laboratory test designed to be more representative of real driving conditions. We anticipate this will be implemented from 2017. In addition, we have been at the forefront of action at a European level to introduce real driving emissions (RDE) testing, which we believe is the best way to ensure tests accurately represent performance out on the road and ensure public confidence.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/3996", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Andrew Jones"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Harrogate and Knaresborough"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Andrew Jones"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2015-10-16", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2015-10-16T11:21:24.82Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "27"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Transport"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Transport"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2015-10-09", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Diesel Vehicles: Exhaust Emissions"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what steps his Department is taking to ensure that diesel car emissions are tested accurately; and that such emissions tests have not been falsified in the UK.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/3998", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Mark Menzies"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Fylde"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Mark Menzies"} ], "uin" : "10823"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/420282", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Department for Transport"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/420282/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

The A57/A628 Mottram bypass was confirmed in the first Road Investment Strategy in December 2014. Following this, Highways England has started developing its design in more detail. This work involves considering variations for the route, which Highways England will be seeking feedback on from stakeholders, including the local communities through which it passes.

Before seeking this feedback, Highways England will assess options to establish what impacts they have – both positive and negative - on the environment, the wider network and economy. They will present information from the assessment to the public in the summer of 2016.

Once this design and assessment work has been completed, the higher-performing options will be put before the public through a consultation process then as part of the statutory planning process.
