The latest annual review for DFID\u2019s grant to BBC Media Action, completed in November 2014, found the project results to have exceeded its plan.<\/p>

From November 2011 to November 2014 the project has spent £53.3 million in the following countries; Afghanistan, Angola, Bangladesh, Burma, Ethiopia, India, Kenya, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestinian Territories, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Tanzania and Zambia. Additional activities took place through an Asia regional programme. BBC Media Action\u2019s priority for the global grant continues to be supporting media outputs that contribute to better governance, healthier populations and an increased ability to cope with crises.<\/p>

DFID does not have a bilateral programme with North Korea. Since 2011 DFID has provided £46.2m funding to BBC Media Action under a five year grant agreement.<\/p>
The grant covers activities in eleven DFID priority countries, ten of which have been classified by \u2018Freedom House' as \u2018partly free' or \u2018not free'. The criteria for country funding include the contribution to the grant's results framework, and fit within the UK aid programme. Whilst North Korea scores extremely badly on freedom of information and media, it is not one of the countries that DFID has prioritised in terms of focusing development resources to achieve poverty reduction.<\/p>
DFID funded activities have reached 130 million people across 11 countries, mainly fragile states, with TV and radio programmes that are improving knowledge about key governance and health issues.<\/p>
