The Government recognises that misuse of off-road bikes can cause nuisance and distress to communities. The Minister for Safeguarding set out the Government\u2019s approach to dealing with this problem in an adjournment debate on 20 June 2022. Data on the number of incidents is not held centrally.<\/p>
Between May and September 2021, the Government held a consultation seeking views on new levels of fees applied to the removal and storage of vehicles under the Police Reform Act 2002 in England and Wales. The consultation also sought views on whether aspects of the regulations and legislation are adequate to provide a sustainable service for vehicle recovery. However, the consultation did not include plans to amend the Section 59 powers. We will shortly announce the next steps following our consultation.<\/p>
The Government does not believe that the introduction of a mandatory registration scheme for off-road quad bikes would be the most effective way to tackle dangerous and anti-social use. It would also place a burden and cost on law abiding citizens who would be most impacted by the requirements.<\/p>
We will continue to support the police to enforce road traffic legislation and will use every available measure to confront the scourge of antisocial behaviour.<\/p>"}

This government is fully committed to giving the police the powers and resources they need to fight crime.<\/p>

We will provide a total police funding settlement of up to £15.2 billion in 2020/21, which is an increase of up to £1.120 billion compared to 2019/20, including main grant, council precept and national priorities. Crimes involving mopeds are clearly a concern. That is why we worked with the police, industry and other partners last autumn to develop a comprehensive action plan to tackle them.<\/p>
Figures from the Metropolitan Police show that this, together with an adapted operational and tactical response by the police, has resulted in a 32% reduction in the theft of mopeds, motorbikes and scooters in the year to March 2019 and a 52% reduction in these items being used in crime for the same period.<\/p>"}

In London, the police are using new tactics including off-road bikes and DNA marker sprays to catch those committing these offences and Metropolitan Police figures show that these crimes have been decreasing since their peak in July last year. We are determined to support the police in their fight against crime and that is why the Home Office is consulting to change the law to give officers greater confidence to pursue suspects on the roads.<\/p>"}
