The government places great value upon international exchange and collaboration in education and training. This will continue to be the case after we leave the EU and establish new relationships with academic institutions across Europe and the rest of the world.<\/p>
If it is in the UK\u2019s interests, we will seek to participate in some specific EU programmes as a third country. The draft Political Declaration envisages the possibility of UK participation in EU programmes like Erasmus+ and the negotiation of general terms of participation. My officials are preparing for all eventualities and are considering a wide range of options with regard to the future of international exchange. These include potential domestic alternatives to the Erasmus+ programme for the 2020/21 academic year and beyond, should we need them.<\/p>"}

The Government has listened to concerns from teachers, pupils, students and parents about how the costs of period products can impact on education. No-one should be held back from reaching their potential, which is why the Department has announced a scheme to provide access to free period products in schools and 16-19 institutions in England.<\/p>
Following a competitive tender exercise, a contract was agreed with Personal Hygiene Services Ltd on the 15 October 2019 for the provision of period products. The scheme will roll out to schools and 16-19 institutions in January 2020. A wide range of products, including environmentally friendly pads and tampons, as well as reusable products such as reusable pads will be available.<\/p>
Schools and 16-19 institutions know their pupils and students best and will therefore have the freedom to select the most suitable products, taking account of age, individual needs, cost and type of product. The Department will provide guidance, to be published later this year, which will support institutions to make these decisions and implement the scheme effectively.<\/p>
The Department will be monitoring product choice closely and will continue to seek opportunities to encourage the use of sustainable products as the scheme develops.<\/p>

All children, no matter where they live, should have access to the support they need to keep them safe, provide them with a stable and nurturing home, and overcome challenges to achieve their potential. That is why, at the Spending Round 2019, the government confirmed an additional £1 billion grant for adult and children\u2019s social care in 2020-21. Overall, core spending power is expected to rise from £46.2 billion to £49.1 billion in 2020-21, an estimated 4.3% real terms increase.<\/p>
However, funding to local government is only part of the solution. We are also implementing an extensive programme of reforms designed to deliver improved outcomes for these children, young people and families. This includes investing £84 million over the next 5 years in targeted, evidence-based interventions to improve the support provided to vulnerable children and their families and enable more children to stay at home thriving in stable family environments. On top of this, we have committed nearly £270 million since 2014 to drive improvement and innovation in children\u2019s social care.<\/p>"}

The department is concerned about an increase in unconditional offers, in particular conditional unconditional offers, and any adverse impact they may be having on students\u2019 motivation and restricting student choice. The independent regulatory body for higher education, the Office for Students (OfS), will be monitoring types of offers and their impact as part of its wider review of admissions, which is underway.<\/p>
The OfS has powers set down in legislation to take action if it has evidence that a higher education provider is acting in a way that harms the prospects of students, through restricting the choice and opportunity available to them, or failing to deliver successful outcomes.<\/p>"}
