The Government has not yet published a consultation on developing a tourist accommodation registration scheme in England.

In June, DCMS issued a call for evidence on the benefits and challenges presented by the rise in short-term and holiday letting seen in England over the last 10 to 15 years. This will inform the development of appropriate policy options, which the government intends to consult on later in 2022. The call for evidence closed on 21 September and we are now carefully analysing 4,000 responses to this exercise, which will help inform next steps.

Public Health England commissioned the Delphi study in question alongside their independent review of the evidence on gambling-related harms. As is protocol for studies of this kind, the participants have been kept anonymous but the Commission has not provided any formal advice or notification to the Department on the report’s content or recommendations. DCMS officials have regular discussions with the Gambling Commission on a range of issues relating to gambling regulation and the evidence on gambling.

Issues around the advertising and marketing of gambling and the rules governing land-based gambling form part of the broad scope of the government's Review of the Gambling Act 2005. We are closely considering all evidence on these and other topics, and will set out our conclusions and proposals for reform in a white paper to be published in the coming weeks.

There is a lack of data and evidence about the size and shape of the short term lets sector, which is why DCMS issued a call for evidence on the benefits and challenges presented by the rise in short-term and holiday letting.

The call for evidence ran from 29 June to 21 September and analysis of the 4,000 responses is now underway.

We wanted to hear from a wide range of stakeholders, including local authorities, in order to build a much-needed evidence base on these issues and enable us to develop proportionate policy options for a possible future consultation.

With the call for evidence now closed, we will now consider the evidence collected and look to provide updates to the sector over the coming months regarding next steps.

As reported earlier this month, Ukraine is now part of the joint bid with Spain and Portugal for the hosting of the 2030 FIFA World Cup. The choice of host for international sporting events such as the FIFA World Cup is at the discretion of the international federation, and its member associations.

The Government has been clear in its support of the Ukrainian people - and we have helped to build and lead the international response in this area, including building consensus for two collective statements from like-minded nations on the actions we believe should be taken within sport in response to Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine. The Football Associations across the UK have also worked closely with the Ukrainian FA - directly, and through European football’s governing body, to provide support.

The Government is committed to ensuring that the UK remains the leading global destination for inward investors in filmmaking.

In recent years, the government’s actions have helped the film and TV industry bounce back from the pandemic, with production now stronger than ever. This includes the £500 million Film and TV Production Restart Scheme, supporting over 100,000 jobs and productions worth more than £3 billion, and the Culture Recovery Fund, supporting over 200 independent cinemas.

To build on this, and support the industry to not only survive but thrive, further actions have been taken. This includes the government’s current £1.6million annual funding of the British Film Commission, which has driven a near doubling of UK studio capacity, the £28 million UK Global Screen Fund, which is expanding the global reach of UK independent content, and the continued success of our screen sector tax reliefs (for film, high end TV, animation and children’s TV), which in 2021-22 provided £792m of support for over 1000 projects.

The Government will continue to engage closely with industry, the British Film Institute, and the British Film Commission, to further promote the UK as a filmmaking destination and to build upon the success of 2021, which saw a record-breaking £5.64 billion in screen production in the film and high-end TV sectors alone.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4647", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Julia Lopez"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Hornchurch and Upminster"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Julia Lopez"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2022-10-27", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2022-10-27T14:18:39.73Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "10"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Digital, Culture, Media and Sport"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Digital, Culture, Media and Sport"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2022-10-24", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Film"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, what steps her Department is taking to promote the UK as an attractive destination for filmmaking.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/1447", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Andrew Rosindell"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Romford"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Andrew Rosindell"} ], "uin" : "69547"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1535279", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1535279/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

The Government is working closely with the events and exhibitions sector to monitor the impact of current pressures on businesses. My Department meets regularly with stakeholders - including the Events Industry Alliance, Business Visits & Events Partnership and the Meetings Industry Association - to gather intelligence and signpost businesses to relevant resources. In addition, the Tourism Industry Council’s Events Industry Board working group advises on how industry and government can collaborate to support the sector’s growth.

We will continue to engage with colleagues across government, including in the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy, to monitor trends as the industry continues its recovery from the pandemic.

The Government is committed to promoting the UK as a destination for major international conferences, exhibitions and events. The UK will host the Eurovision Song Contest next year in Liverpool, on behalf of last year’s winner Ukraine. The event will be a great opportunity to showcase the UK’s visitor economy and host people from all over the world.

VisitBritain’s Business Events Growth Programme forms a key part of the government’s commitment to grow the business events sector. In 2022/23, the programme is on course for a record year of successful applications across a wide distribution of British cities, supporting events in the UK’s strongest growth sectors. So far this financial year, there have been 25 confirmed applications for potential and confirmed events in 11 cities across the UK.

The Tourism Recovery Plan sets out our long-term vision for growing the sector and our commitment to providing strong government advocacy for business events. The Tourism Industry Council’s Events Industry Board working group advises on how industry and the government can collaborate to support the sector’s growth.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4647", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Julia Lopez"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Hornchurch and Upminster"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Julia Lopez"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2022-10-27", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2022-10-27T07:07:32.537Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "10"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Digital, Culture, Media and Sport"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Digital, Culture, Media and Sport"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2022-10-24", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Events Industry"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, what steps she is taking to promote the UK as a destination for major international conferences, exhibitions and events.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/1500", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Theresa Villiers"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Chipping Barnet"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Theresa Villiers"} ], "uin" : "69555"} ], "itemsPerPage" : 10, "next" : "https://eldaddp.azurewebsites.net/answeredquestions.text?min-answer.dateOfAnswer=2018-11-19&_page=1&max-AnswerDate=2022-10-27&answeringDeptSortName=Digital%2C+Culture%2C+Media+and+Sport", "page" : 0, "startIndex" : 1, "totalResults" : 8629, "type" : ["http://purl.org/linked-data/api/vocab#ListEndpoint", "http://purl.org/linked-data/api/vocab#Page"]} }
