The UK is committed to working with partners to meet the needs of the people of Sudan, regardless of the political situation. This is not dependent on fixed term-limits for governing and elected officials, but we do support the establishment of proper democratic processes. UK aid is currently channelled through multilateral organisations, international Non-Governmental Organisations and commercial partners, which are monitored by DFID in Sudan. During the 39 month transitional period the UK will continue to provide lifesaving aid to the most vulnerable and urge the Civilian-led Government of Sudan to undertake much needed economic and political reforms to support prosperity and the rights of the people of Sudan. As a landlocked country, cross-border transportation of aid is essential for an effective humanitarian response in South Sudan. DFID is funding TradeMark East Africa to improve efficiency and capacity on the Uganda-South Sudan border at Nimule, and to work with the UN to speed up the importation on humanitarian goods.<\/p>
The World Food Programme (WFP) is also working, with DFID funding, to strengthen cooperation on land border crossings between Sudan and South Sudan. The Small Charities Challenge Fund was launched in 2017 to make DFID funding more accessible to small charities. We are constantly monitoring the effectiveness of the fund\u2019s eligibility criteria and are pleased with progress to date. In the most recent round 88% of shortlisted applicants had not previously received DFID funding.<\/p>

The UK continuously appraises the effectiveness of its programmes via a number of mechanisms. This includes Annual Reviews which contain analysis of value for money and to what extent programmes\u2019 anticipated results are being achieved. Annual Reviews of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) are publically available on the Dev Tracker website. In addition the UK has been pushing a reform agenda of GPE\u2019s operational processes, which has seen the Partnership make significant progress in areas such as results reporting and risk management. Alice Albright, CEO of GPE, acknowledged DFID\u2019s pivotal role in improving GPE\u2019s operations in evidence to the IDC<\/a>.<\/p> <\/p> The UK is strongly committed to girls education, as one of our four pillars in the Strategic Vision for Women and Girls. We support gender equitable education through our bilateral and central education programmes; our education research; and our international relationships with partners such as UNICEF and UNGEI.
