This applies whether or not they are included on the Shortage Occupation List.<\/p><p>Whilst we have considered carefully the possible impacts of the new immigration system, additional variables such as the impact of Covid-19 on the UK Labour Market require closer examination. To avoid taking a piecemeal approach to implementing the Migration Advisory Committee\u2019s advice, we need to review the various influences on migration flows and the labour market, including introduction of a new immigration system, and whether this is in line with our anticipated outcomes, before considering which changes are required to the Shortage Occupation List.<\/p>"}

These roles will continue to be eligible under the UK\u2019s Points-Based Immigration System.<\/p><p>The Government has also accepted the Migration Advisory Committee\u2019s recommendation in their report on \u201cA Points-based System and Salary Thresholds for Immigration\u201d on occupations which should be subject to formal pay scales. This means physiotherapists will need to be paid in line the \u2018Agenda for Change\u2019 pay scales.<\/p><p>The Government\u2019s manifesto set out plans for improving the visa system for doctors, nurses and allied health professionals, including physiotherapists. The current Tier 2 system, through which physiotherapists can be recruited, ensures that experienced workers are paid the higher of either a minimum of £30,000 or the \u2018going rate\u2019 for this occupation, the latter of which is based on data provided by the Office for National Statistics. This system is designed to ensure that migrants are paid a fair wage and that the resident workforce is not undercut.<\/p><p><br>However, we have been clear that decisions on the future immigration system should be based on clear evidence. That is why, on 24 June 2019, the Government asked the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) to consider the issue of minimum salary thresholds in more detail. As part of this new commission, we have asked the MAC to look at a number of issues including the approach to calculating salary thresholds, the levels at which they should be set, the case for greater regional variation and the impact of exemptions from minimum salary thresholds. This report is due by January 2020.<\/p>"}
