We aim to agree these with all places by early 2020. For Kent, the South East LEP will set out an ambitious long-term vision for the area to increase its productivity, build on its established strengths, and create new opportunities for people and businesses in emerging sectors and industries.<\/p><p> <\/p><p>The government know that regions across the UK have different skills needs, so will build on local strengths to deliver opportunities for people wherever they live. One way we will achieve this is through Skills Advisory Panels which bring together local employers and skills providers to pool knowledge on skills and labour market needs and work together to understand and address key local challenges. These Panels will be led by the Local Enterprise Partnership, and will influence Local Industrial Strategy development.<\/p><p> <\/p><p>In Kent, and the wider South East LEP area, the government is working in partnership with local business and civic leaders to grow skills and opportunities for workers across the area by:<\/p><p>- Delivering an increase of 198,900 jobs since 2010 and 31,080 apprenticeship starts last year.<\/p><p>- Investing £590 million of Growth Deal funding to the South East LEP since 2014. delivering 78,000 jobs, 29,000 homes and attracting a further £960 million extra investment into the South East, including £22 million spent on 29 skills projects.<\/p><p>- Investing £6.5 million for the Kent and Medway EDGE Hub. .<\/p><p>- Backing the Innovation Park Medway, within the Kent Enterprise Zone with £4.4 million funding to help attract high quality technology, engineering and manufacturing companies to the area.<\/p><p>Supporting the Local Enterprise Partnership\u2019s Kent and Medway Growth Hub to help small and medium sized enterprises in the areas access the support they need to grow and thrive.<\/p>"}

Member in the answer of 7 January 2013, <em>Official Report<\/em>, Column 121W, I would note that the new Affordable Rent model now allows for more affordable housing to be delivered with lower levels of taxpayer capital subsidy and lever in more private investment.<\/p><p>As the National Audit Office has observed: \u201cThe Department selected the best delivery model open to it for the funds it had available\u201d and \u201cThe Department has so far achieved its policy objective to maximise the number of homes delivered within the available grant funding\u201d (National Audit Office, \u201cFinancial viability of the social housing sector; introducing the Affordable Homes Programme\u201d, 4 July 2012, HC465, pp.6-7).<\/p><p>I also note that the Mayor's proposed Housing Strategy states: \u201c£1.8 billion of public funding has been secured by the Mayor which will unlock an estimated additional £3.7 billion of other investment for London to enable 55,000 affordable homes to be delivered between 2011-15\u201d (Mayor of London, \u201cThe Revised London Housing Strategy\u201d, December2011, p.35).<\/p><p>Across England, 170,000 affordable homes have been delivered so far since April 2010, and a total of £19.5 billion of public and private investment is being spent on affordable housing over the current Spending Review period.<\/p><p> <\/p><p><em> <\/em><\/p><p> <\/p>"}
