The programme supports the reform of the criminal justice system and the Government is confident it has been delivered in a way that is consistent with our opposition to the death penalty.

All our capacity building work is carefully considered using our Overseas Security and Justice Assistance (OSJA) Guidance, which ensures the assistance being provided is properly assessed against a comprehensive range of human rights risks, including possible indirect outcomes of our activity and what mitigations are being put in place. The Guidance instructs when OSJAs are prepared, that they should be regularly updated and when Ministers must be consulted. The OSJA checklist continues to be a live document and updated as necessary. The UK and Pakistan have a shared interest in addressing and reducing the threat of terrorism. We are committed to working together to combat the terrorist threat and the extremism that sustains it, in a human rights-compliant manner. This helps reduce the threat to the UK and UK interests. Government Ministers regularly raise this issue with their counterparts in the government of Pakistan. The Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my Rt Hon. Friend the Member for Uxbridge and South Ruislip (Boris Johnson), discussed the National Action Plan with the Government of Pakistan when he visited Islamabad in November. The British Government works with relevant Pakistani authorities to encourage progress on tackling terrorism and to assist Pakistani efforts to implement certain provisions of Pakistan's National Action Plan.<\/p>"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4014", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Sir Alok Sharma"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Reading West"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Alok Sharma"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2016-12-07", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2016-12-07T16:37:18.853Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "16"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign and Commonwealth Office"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign and Commonwealth Office"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2016-11-29", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Pakistan: Counter-terrorism"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what discussions his Department has had with the government of Pakistan on its National Action Plan of December 2014; and what assessment he has made of the effectiveness of that plan's implementation.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4131", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Jim Shannon"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Strangford"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Jim Shannon"} ], "uin" : "55335"} ], "itemsPerPage" : 10, "page" : 0, "startIndex" : 1, "totalResults" : 2, "type" : ["http://purl.org/linked-data/api/vocab#ListEndpoint", "http://purl.org/linked-data/api/vocab#Page"]} }
