More than 98 per cent of vehicles on the road are currently taxed and as the annual report shows the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) continues to collect approximately £6 billion in tax each year. This shows the overwhelming majority of motorists tax their vehicles on time.

The Secretary of State for Transport set out a clear ambition in 2016 for airport charges to remain as close as possible to current levels in real terms. The Secretary of State has re-commissioned the CAA to oversee, and report on, how well Heathrow Airport Limited is engaging with the airline community on its plans for expansion with the objective of achieving value for money for the consumer. This follows on from a previous commission during which Heathrow announced the identification of potential costs savings of up to £2.5bn.

Ultimately, the CAA will determine the level of airport charges in lines with its primary duty to further the interests of consumers (passengers and freight operators). In its most recent consultation the CAA noted that there are “credible scenarios in which capacity expansion can be delivered affordably and financeably, with airport charges per passenger remaining close to current levels in real terms and line with the ambition expressed by the SoS [Secretary of State] on these matters in 2016”.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4584", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Baroness Sugg"} } , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Baroness Sugg"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2018-09-13", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2018-09-13T13:42:47.42Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "27"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Transport"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Transport"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2018-09-04", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Heathrow Airport"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "2"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25277", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Lords"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask Her Majesty's Government what steps, if any, they are taking to ensure that (1) the costs of Heathrow Airport expansion do not rise above £14 billion, and (2) that airlines, passengers and taxpayers will not cover any extra amount should costs rise above that level.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4228", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Lord Grade of Yarmouth"} } , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Lord Grade of Yarmouth"} ], "uin" : "HL9956"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/967462", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Department for Transport"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/967462/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "
