The Gambling Commission has strong regulatory powers up to and including revocation of operating licences. The Government and the Gambling Commission expect industry to comply with both the spirit and the letter of the new regulations on B2 gaming machines to ensure that consumers continue to be protected from harm.<\/p>
<\/p>
High-stake roulette-style products launched on 1 April by two high-street bookmakers were withdrawn the following day after a warning from the Gambling Commission. The Commission is continuing to investigate the circumstances and the operators could still face regulatory action. The Commission may also investigate key senior staff at bookmakers who are responsible for bringing those products to market.<\/p>
<\/p>

In the second chapter of the Government's Childhood Obesity Plan, published in June, we committed to consult by the end of 2018 on introducing a 9pm watershed on TV advertising of HFSS products and similar protection for children viewing adverts online - with the aim of limiting children\u2019s exposure to HFSS advertising, and incentivising sugar and calorie reduction.<\/p>
<\/p>
Alcohol advertising is not in scope for this work because the consultation is focused on products that children consume.<\/p>
<\/p>
As with HFSS advertising, alcohol advertising in the UK is regulated by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), the industry\u2019s independent regulator, who enforce the Advertising Codes through a system of self-regulation and co-regulation with Ofcom. The Codes apply to all media, including broadcast and online, and set standards for accuracy and honesty to which advertisers are expected to adhere, including specific conditions on advertising to children, causing offence and social responsibility.<\/p>
<\/p>
The Codes recognise the social imperative of ensuring alcohol advertising is responsible. They are regularly reviewed and updated by the industry to ensure they remain effective, and proposed changes to the Codes are routinely subject to public consultation. This Government takes gambling-related harm seriously and in May we announced a strong package of measures to tackle it. We have taken decisive action on fixed-odds betting terminals to cut the maximum stake to £2. The department does not hold constituency-level financial data. The UK Government has contributed £95 million to support broadband rollout to over 630,000 premises in Scotland. In February 2014 the UK Government committed a further £20.99 million to support a second project in Scotland. The Scottish Government has not yet managed to start procurement of this second project, despite similar projects already being up and running in most other parts of the UK.
