To this end, the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) established the Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation (CDEI) in November 2018. The Centre provides government with independent, expert advice on measures needed to enable/ensure safe, ethical and innovative uses of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data-driven technologies. The Centre\u2019s 2019/20 Work Programme is focused on delivering two major reviews, including one on online targeting. The Targeting Review is investigating how data is used to shape people\u2019s online environments via the personalisation and targeting of messages, content and services online. Interim findings were published in July 2019, alongside a literature review, and the Centre will publish its final recommendations this December.<\/p>

The small-scale Radio Multiplex and Community Digital Radio Order 2019 completed its Commons and Lords committee stages where it received cross party support. We expect the Order will shortly complete its final stage of a Motion from the House of Commons.<\/p> The next phase is for Ofcom to complete the consultation on their plans to license small-scale DAB, using the new powers the Government is proposing, through Parliament, to give them. Ofcom expect to be able to publish a post-consultation Statement early next year, at which point Ofcom plan to begin the process of advertising new small-scale radio multiplex licences.<\/p>"}

It is designed to increase the number and diversity of individuals pursuing a career in the cyber security profession. Launched in 2018, the Cyber Skills Immediate Impact Fund announced its third funding round on 14 August 2019.<\/p> <\/p> We are currently running an open grant competition for proposed initiatives to apply for funding. We expect to support several new initiatives in this round of funding, working closely with employers to maximise the employment prospects of the individuals benefiting from the training programmes. Over 400 people have already benefited from training supported by previous funding rounds, and our objective is that greater numbers will benefit as the businesses we partner with further invest in this sector. Since then the government has:<\/p> - Consulted on improving access for network builders to tenanted properties and new builds.<\/p> - Invested public funding in the deployment of gigabit capable broadband in the less commercial areas of the country. For example, the Government has launched the £200 million Rural Gigabit Connectivity programme as the first stage in our outside-in programme to rollout gigabit broadband to the most rural and remote areas of the country, and the existing superfast broadband programme has pivoted towards full fibre provision.<\/p> The government has plans to build further on this work, including plans to introduce legislation on easier access to tenanted properties and ensuring new builds have gigabit connectivity.<\/p> Specifically in Hampshire, CityFibre and Toob have both announced plans to invest in full fibre networks whilst Virgin Media have announced that Southampton will be the first city they will upgrade to gigabit capable connectivity. Government is also supporting deployment in Hampshire with projects in Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight through the Local Full Fibre Networks programme, having already passed over 7,000 premises in Hampshire with full fibre through the Superfast Programme.<\/p>"}
