Government takes the issue of disinformation very seriously. The DCMS-led Cross-Whitehall Counter Disinformation Unit (CDU) was stood up on 5 March 2020, bringing together cross-government monitoring and analysis capabilities from DCMS, the Home Office, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and the Cabinet Office. In response to the current situation, we have trebled the size of the coordination team at DCMS.<\/p>
<\/strong><\/p> CDU capability is resourced full time through existing cross-government teams.<\/p> <\/strong><\/p> Addressing the challenges of disinformation and misinformation is a whole of government effort and we are working around the clock with Whitehall departments, the social media platforms, and disinformation specialists in academia and civil society to lead the fight against misinformation and disinformation.<\/p> <\/p>"}

However, we appreciate that the Covid-19 pandemic presents a significant challenge to many of DCMS\u2019 sectors including publishing and the wider Creative Industries which is why the government has announced unprecedented support for business and workers to protect them against the current economic emergency.<\/p> <\/strong><\/p> To ensure we are assisting all our sectors as effectively as possible, regular ministerially-chaired roundtables are held with business representative organisations as well as trade associations from across the Creative Industries. In addition, officials are in regular contact with stakeholders from these sectors, and we continue to speak with HM Treasury colleagues to ensure that the full spectrum of government support reaches the UK's world-leading media and Creative Industries.<\/p> The telecoms sector has undertaken a significant amount of work over recent years to prepare for a pandemic. DCMS is working closely with the main broadband providers to ensure the network remains stable and continues to have sufficient capacity for the increases in home-working and remote learning the country has seen as a part of its response to Covid-19.<\/p> <\/strong><\/p> Additionally, on 19 April the Government announced measures to ensure that vulnerable and disadvantaged children across England can access the internet. We are also working with the country\u2019s major telecommunication providers to make it easier for families, who are relying on mobile data, to access online educational resources.<\/p>
