We recognise that COVID-19 is impacting people in different ways, as I noted in my first quarterly report to the Prime Minister. Addressing these disparities is a priority for the whole Government. Our economic response is protecting people right across society – saving jobs, keeping businesses afloat and ensuring those most impacted have the support they need.

We are also working hard through local networks to ensure key information reaches all segments of society – for example through investing in our £23 million Community Champions scheme.

We’re seeing very positive developments in our vaccine roll-out – as recognised recently by the Bank of England. It’s vital the vaccine programme reaches all parts of our community and we have established a National Equalities Board to ensure that happens.

The Government is determined that our recovery from this virus will build back fairer for everyone.
"}

Convalescent plasma was trialled as a treatment for COVID-19 in hospitalised patients in the RECOVERY and REMAP-CAP trial platforms in the United Kingdom. The interim analysis from both trials on 7 January 2021 revealed no benefit of convalescent plasma for patients with severe disease including patients requiring mechanical ventilation and organ support.

The RECOVERY trial closed recruitment on 15 January and reported no overall mortality benefit for other hospitalised patients. However, both trials are continuing to analyse the data, as it is possible that convalescent plasma could provide clinical benefit for specific sub-groups of patients.
"}

The Government announced on 22 February that it will review whether COVID-19 status certification could play a role in reopening the economy, reducing restrictions on social contact and improving safety. This will include assessing to what extent certification would be effective in reducing risk, and the potential uses to enable access to settings or a relaxation of COVID-19 secure mitigations.

The Government will also consider the ethical, equalities, privacy, legal and operational aspects of this approach and what limits, if any, should be placed on organisations using certification. It will draw on external advice to develop recommendations that take into account any social and economic impacts, and implications for disproportionately impacted groups and individuals’ privacy and security.
"}
